What are somethings that you should look out for when playing short races with good players? Any tips would be great

Avoid short race nine ball, against any player. :D

Good Rolls,
Rasta

Rasta nailed it...a short race spells doom. Easy for a B player to run 5 racks in 9 ball, if things roll right for him. AND..."The balls roll funny for everybody, kid."

Always win the last game and you'll be fine. Also bring a 2 headed quarter so you mite win the flip too.

Play relaxed. All the pressure is on them. They aren't supposed to lose to you. So if they go down early in the set it might make them sweat a bit. Just stay calm and play your game. IF you play good enough...which I know you do, get the early lead and apply the heat....:) You'll pull off the upset sooner or later.

While it is important to be relaxed to play your best pool, agression on the table is what is needed to best a better player than yourself.

If you are playing a "better" player, you must always play more agressively than you normally would. Seldom will you win if you back off of your A game.

Sometimes when you shoot at a good player, they will get scared like anyone else and start missing balls. The short race is when you need to be shooting at everything. The longer the game goes on, the more the better player is going to lock you up. The better player is likely to recognize more safety opportunities.

OH yeah, when you get on top, don't let up or they will get that second wind and you ain't gonna like it. :-)

Shoot, shoot, shoot!

Well if you break and run out the set, thats a good way of dealing with a better player.

Playing lock-up type safes.

Dont let them have a decent shot at the table.

Dont let them win.

Also make the most of everytime you get to the table. If your locked up in a safe. instead of kicking at the OB, try locking up to other balls so, your opponent need's to break them up or play safe, which allows you a chance back to the table.

Win the coin toss! This alone can stop you being a spectator!

Edit: Win the coin toss then don't scratch on the break lol.

I played a guy in a race to 3 in a tourny. He had to spot me one. I broke scratched and figured it was over since it was wide open. Then he strangely went for the nine and missed I locked him up, but left the ball hanging near the pocket. He kicked two rails and ran out, then broke and ran out. Then broke missed, I missed and he ran out to the 8, missed and accidentally hooked me.
