How To Improve Your 14 - 1 Play

I wonder what kind of runs the top snooker pros would have? Could Ronnie run a hundred? TheOne, have you tried this?

I found after you can run maybe 3 racks consistently, the best way to improve is to watch how great players run their patterns. If your missing balls to end a run.....you need to work on technique. On the other hand if you are running out of shots, getting stuck not opening the balls up, or not leaving/making break balls etc....you need to learn more about the game to lengthen runs. IMHO and the only way to do that is to learn from a better player/instructor than yourself.

Took me for ever to learn that you can play good 9ball learning and practicing yourself because the game is spelled out for you. Not the case playing 14.1 or 1 pocket....you must learn from accomplished players....unless you have some magical voodoo savant thing going on.;D

Even better would be to practice playing 14.1 on a pool table. Snooker strengthens your pocketing, but it's not the same.

Gerry hit the nail on the head here. Straight pool requires so much knowledge that you only realistic approach to mastering it is to study the play of and learn from experienced veteran players.

In my life. I've been lucky in that the greatest scholars of the game have been generous enough to share their knowledge with me.

I did try it once last year on an extreemly tight tournament table, I also played with my z shaft, I broke the balls ran all 14 reds but missed a thin cut break shot. It doesn't sound like much but I was pretty suprised considering the equipment, I didn't try again. I have no doubt that Ronnie would be able to run 100 on the same table, absoloutley no question. 14.1 on a pool table is very different, more congested but much much easier overall.
