I have a modern cue (10-15 years old) an Asian import of an uncertain manufacturer (probably Kao-Kao) that is new. It was sealed in the original plastic sleeve and smelled like the day it was made when I opened it last year.
Yes, it is one of my "cheap cues", so I hope that does not put anyone off.
I guess you can stop reading if it does.
It seems to be a modern finish, but I don't know what type specifically. I am guessing it is a UV or urethane type finish? But I am strictly amateur about such things so forgive my fumbling with that matter.
On the side of the butt cap there is a 2mm x 4mm scuff or abrasion in the finish. It is extremely superficial and was there apparently from the factory. I got the cue very cheap on the tertiary market so even though it is new I did not feel it was a return issue...in addition I wanted the cue and finding another would be pretty difficult to say the least. The cue is otherwise "perfect".
This little finish imperfection does not seem to go through the finish at all, very superficial, bit it disappointingly has some brown material in it. Something was picked up off of whatever it bumped into to make the abrasion.
I know...a lot of noise about a POS cue so if you are still reading, thank you.
Now that I am on vacation (lost my job) and have a little time I thought I would take the time to try to do something about it.
What method might you suggest to try to polish this out?
I was thinking a soft cloth and some kind of mild polishing compound might work. I even considered trying a little toothpaste on a soft cloth. I have used it before as a mild polishing compound for trivial things.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
