When you think about protecting your lead, you stop adding to your lead. You should just think about burying your opponent.
I assume you were gambling?
I play to see who has to take their cue apart.....
..up or down, that will keep your head straight...
...and your eye on the ball
Just think about all that beautiful money or
How happy your old lady will be or
The effect being down more money has on your opponent, maybe he'll jack the bet or
How sick you will feel in the morning knowing you paid him after being up so much ( Ouch, well you already know how that feels). It really sucks.
Remember if the grind gets to much you can always quit winner, but your customers may get upset. It's best to keep the heat on with the window wide open and let them break themselves. If your playing friends you probably shouldn't be pushing too hard, because they'll eventually resent you.
More info is needed. Did he start to play stronger? You weaker? Change of strategies? Was the bet upped? Conditions change? Many, many variables...

Yes, continue to play the same way you got that lead. Protecting a lead means altering your play and ultimately having the guy come back. You must always be trying to bust the guy.
Thanks Lou and all. He started very weak, and i was strong, bet stayed the same no one upped it. Then all of a sudden i started going down hill at times shooting low % shots of which he capitalize on and he run balls and shoot like God. I have played the guy before couple of times, i win first few, then he comes back and wipe off my winning and get two or three ahead. He does like to play for higher bet, but does not seem he initiates the jacking up stuff!!
I think the ability to play at a consistent level -- consistently -- is one of the most critical and hardest to attain skills. What you describe, naji, is a problem that plagues many of us. Playing at a consistent level is one of the hallmarks of a good, if not great, player. Good luck on your trip up the mountain.

Thanks Lou, that mountain is very high, i will get on top, if not in this life span, maybe the under earth life, they say you get consistent down there and lots of goodies.

Completely wrong mentallity. Keep the same mentality you had that got you the lead and when you have it, tell yourself you want even more.

I can see that your opponent playing in the raw might be a distraction!
Seriously, you must play each game as if it were your last.
