How Was 9 BALL First Discovered?

Historic Table

Actually it was discovered by the Earl of Kennedy back in the 17th century in a castle basement. In Europe back then they played "billiards" a game with 3 ball and no pockets. When it came over on the Mayflower they had to convert from metric to english. So 3 balls now became 9 and no pockets converted to 5.6 which was rounded up to todays 6 pockets.
Sometimes in old old poolrooms in a dark corner you'll find a table with 5 normal pockets and 1 shimmed one thats not to hustle in comming road players. Its an actual original true table built to the correct metric conversion.

That's interesting, I've never heard this story....do you know any pool rooms that still have this type of table, I'd be interested in seeing one if it's in the United States.

9 ball

The game became popular with TV production executives. They needed a fast moving gamt to hold the attention of the viewers.
Miller lite tried the platform back in the taste great-less filling days. They promoted a multi city deal.
ABC wide world of sports even aired a world nine ball tournament-Gary Pinkowski beat Mizerac for the title!
But alas viewers found even the insanity of 9ball boring.
By the way it is a shorten bastardised version of 15 ball rotation.

Miller Light World Series of Tavern Pool ended in 1985....Bud Light took it over at the last minute in 1986 ... no one seemed to know why at the time....I know because I won that tournament in 1986 and the prize money ended up being 50% of what was initially represented:frown: However, there was no rumor of it being the game that was at fault.
