how well does FL shoot?

Just wondering whether FL can play as well as he claims.

For example, he says:

This game (rotation) is so tough to run out on, the high run on it is only 75 balls 5 racks which I set the world record on in 94, Efren Reyes high run is 60, 4 racks. To break and run the table of all 15 balls is a supreme accomplishment. My first 4 racks were all call shot, including calling the one ball on the break in the side pocket 4 times in a row. That is a record that will never be beaten. I then broke and made two on the break but the one did not go in the side but by the rules you don’t have to call a break ball, same in 8 or 9 ball. I ran out the 5th rack and sat down and began to drink scotch savoring the moment and just kept drinking and never got back up so the run was unfinished. It was a social occasion and I had been drinking for hours before the high run so I was already pretty loose and feeling no pain. Never at any time during that run did I use more than a half tip of English. So I hold two world records there.

and

There is no shot ever made by any human since 1820 that I have no made or duplicated. There is no shot I cannot teach or can not have a person of talent and dedication be able to make.

So, just how good is FL?

Maybe the question should be, How good was he?????????
I have heard reference that he did play pretty well at one time and he does have a vast amount of knowledge.

You can't accuse him of modesty!

I've never met FL in person, but I've spoken with him on the phone and know that he isn't exactly a spring chicken any more, like a number of us on here...so you don't and CAN'T play as well as you used to when you were younger. Age hits all of us and it's just a fact of life. Actually, the older I get...the better and better I used to play when I was young, at least that's the way my memory serves me. ;) :D

On his website, FL uses a standard 14.1 break with one ball remaining and breaks open the rack. From there, he runs the entire rack of 14 balls without TOUCHING A RAIL with the CB. Can YOU DO THAT? How many posters on here have attempted it and CAN do it? It ain't that easy by any stretch of the imagination and he did it fairly recently.

I have a video that he sent me that shows some trick shots that I have NEVER seen any one duplicate. Try this one for size and tell me if you can do it! It's a wing shot: Roll an object ball down the table, HOWEVER...then bounce the CB off a tennis racket which is ON THE FLOOR...and hit the CB when it's in midair back at table height to make the rolling OB.

When you get done doing that shot...try another wing shot: this time roll 2 BALLS down the table at the same time...bounce the CB off the racket again and strike the CB in midair and make BOTH OB BALLS in OPPOSITE CORNER POCKETS by splitting them with a cut simultaneously.

When you get done with that one...do another wing shot: roll a ball down the table...bounce your CB off the racket and strike it in MID AIR and hit the OB to go 4 rails into the foot corner pocket that was pre-called before the shot.

Yeh...I love how everybody likes to rip FL a new asshole by diminishing, demeaning, and flat out denying that he did it...but he did it! And it was NOT DONE through digital enhancement. CAN YOU DO THE ABOVE MENTIONED?? Give it a try and we'll all see.

DM,

That's amazing. People really need to think about that. I don't think I could run 5 or 6 without touching the rail. Wow! Too bad he had to offend so many people.

Wow...! I had no idea Fast was that good. If you got the tapes , it must be so. It would be too hard to fake this without someone knowing. Fast sure juiced things up here but, is easily angered if other posters call him on something. JMO

I'm not trying to diminish some of the shots on Larry's videos BUT one thing to consider is that he isn't usually making those on the first try. If you keep tryin a few dozen times and just keep taping, you can make a tape that looks like your banging them out one after the other.

Back on topic, Larry was an APA 6 in 1994 in the Atlanta area.

And he never said otherwise. Fact is...he told me the various wing shots almost drove him to lose his hair, they were so difficult.

I defy ANYONE to try those wing shots...not a couple of dozen times...but a million times from now until the rest of your life and see if you can even pull ONE OF THEM OFF.

I can play damn decent pool, but I could no more do that ONCE if I started now and never tried anything else forever. Just try hitting the CB solidly in mid air without whiffing it or hitting a foul ball...let alone MAKING the shots!!

Shit...now I have to buy a tennis racket to play pool?!? Damn, this game is getting as costly as golf.

I have seen the videos that Larry has on his website and some of the trick shots are truly amazing. It is Larry's behavior that is deplorable. He hates my guts with a purple passion because I called him on some of his exaggerations. It is sad because he seems like a person that has a lot of passion for pool, yet he has a lot of dreams that have never been realized. He has a lot of knowledge to share with everyone, yet he sabotages his message with his offensive rants. Say what you want about him, he's quite a character and I believe he has traded in fame for infamy, and he seems quite content with that.

I have never questioned his ability to play pool. That is really not the issue with Larry, it's his egomaniacal attitude. He's definitely suffering some serious self esteem issues and even if he is or was the greatest pool player of all time, he's still an asshole! Anyone that bangs their own drum as long and as loud as he does has got to have some serious issues. He's been on this board before and it was a nightmare. He's now driving people off of RSB and people here want to entertain the notion of him being able to come back. I just don't understand why. I hope Mike has more sense than some of you seem to have.

In your case...I'd say quit pool entirely and just take up tennis. Rackets are less expensive than a quality cue...you can always find a tennis court for free and not have to pay table time...and you'll more than likely be better at it.

The bottom line is if Fast can promise to BEHAVE. There will be a lot of posts he will just have to ignore and turn the other cheek on! Can Fast do this? I honestly dont know! JMO

I don't know ...

I saw Jet Li pop a ball out of a leather pocket,
kick it in midair and hit the guy right dead center
forehead, and knock him out .... lol

So, if we took a consensus, we would probably all
agree that FL has a 'Minnesota Fats' type personality,
and that although he might be very good at Pool,
his manners need working on. Hell, that is half the
guys that I love to beat at Pool. He is just one of
those guys you love to hate ... He is just not a
middle of the road type guy ... Of course Earl
isn't either, but I still like Earl. But FL, I imagine,
would probably grate on my nerves some if I was
to match up and play him some ....

Trick shots are nice and flashy, but how many times are
they actually useful in a regular match?

yeah Jeff, and I think you already have "The Inner Game of Tennis" lol

you ever play @ Big Dogs. Athens said he has met you, but I have never ran into you.

Well...there's your problem right there...you're using your imagination too much, which is the ONLY thing we have to go on when it comes to internet forums. You have NO CLUE what a person is like until you meet him in real life. And if you think otherwise...maybe your daddy didn't teach you good enough and you need to go have another fireside chat or two with him.

So, I spoke to Johnny Mac and he told me how to piss and moan after a bad call. I've been practicing that for a while and I just can't seem to get it. I do it exactly as he told me and still the ref ignores my rants. Now what?
