How would you get out here?

This shot came up last night in a game of 8 ball. I am stripes. How would you play to run out? I will post what I did.

What I did?

Probably not the smartest shot, but I impressed myself that I saw it and executed perfectly.

shoot the 15 come out middle table to the right of the spot (right of the spot as in.. on the diagram.. to the right of it), and hit the 9 with bottom right to throw the cueball into the back to push the 12 and 11 out. first glance thought.

Should free up the 12 and let you negotiate position on wherever the 11 goes.

It looked to me that the best option would be to softly cut the 15 to leave enough angle on the 9 in the side to break out your other balls.

Nice shot. I never would have seen that (and I'm sure I couldn't execute it).

If I had to try for the runout, I would start with the 15 in the corner -- leave an angle on the 9 to float down to and off of the foot rail and ideally leave a slight backcut on the 12 into the same pocket the 15 went into -- the CB should nudge the 6 and leave a shot on the 11 into the top side or corner pockets.

Sorry for not posting a diagram (I'm a professional lurker and lack the Wei skills).

Of course, I would probably screw up my plan 75% of the time -- hence the d-player status.

I like this pattern better, it's the safer way to go. I think this layout requires you to run out or lose, but in this case it's better to leave the cluster until you have better position on the 12. Busting loose with the carom like you did was a low percentage shot, congrats on making it. Did you get out afterwards?

I dont like back cutting the 12.. it's makable but so limited on shape play for the 11 if you're even off a LITTLE on your shape on the 12 which imo seems not as safe as opening it up.

After making the jump-carom my adrenaline must have been pumping too high. I overshot shape after the 9 ball and had to play safe. I did win though. This was against fellow AZer powerlineman80.

I don't play 8-ball much at all, but I don't see a good runout possibility. I like Patrick's if you're really good with cueball control.
But I would play the following safety, being sure to have the CB bump the rail with enough speed.

This is the textbook correct way to get out.

It leaves the 15 as an escape ball in case the breakout goes bad and seems pretty likely to come out decent.

Run Out

I like the 15 then 9 with draw to budt out the 11 and 12. But I don't think I would have tried that carom.---Smitty

Yeah. I missed that. Risky but chances are you'll break up the problems. And you have the 15 as an insurance shot.
