How Would You Get Out ?

LOL! I hate to say this, but I feel he played the 8 wrong also! You don't try and hold that shot, you simply go across table and you can't go wrong! Even if you stick yourself frozen to the opposite side rail, you are still shooting an easier shot than he has there!

edit: look at his stance. He easily could have hit that shot harder than he did. He didn't underhit the speed, he was trying to hold it and overhit the speed.

Neil,

You'll just have to trust me on this; Parica clearly UNDERHIT the 8 ball. The pic doesn't truly represent the shot. He hit the 8 fairly hard, as heard on the shot, and he came up short anyway. The 8 is a fuller hit than it looks on the "still" shot I posted.

Anybody who thinks they can set up these shots shown in two dimensions on an actual table in three dimensions doesn't know anything either. You cannot do it.

Soooo...to summarize the thread, even though we are watching a HOFer, he should of played the 7 three rails (the overall consensus), because if he's reaching for the 8 then he is slightly out of line causing him to continue to be out of line for the 9, BUT because he is a HOFer he gets out anyway !:grin-square:

Who said he got out???

Here's my summary of the layout:

He shoots the 7 probably the "right" way for him because he is so talented.

He relies on speed to get on the 8 ball and comes up slightly short.

He has to "stretch" a little to shoot the 8 because he came up a little short and because he's shooting at an angle.

Because he's "stretched" a little he underhits the 8 ball and has a difficult shot on the 9 ball, all because of his choice of the shot on the 7 ball.

OK, I'll take your word for it. But, the principle still applies for other similar cases. Things to "be aware of".

Spot on.

Though I must say, if he came up short on the 8 bc he chose a shot that required precise speed control (when there's a natural shot that takes speed out of the equation), could you still say he chose the "right" shot for himself? HOF member notwithstanding.

I'm not sure the 3-railer off the 7 ball is a great or even a good shot. It depends on how far the 7 is off the rail and we simply don't have a good pic of that.

Let's take the 3-railer for a moment and look at it. If you put too much right English on it you can come out even worse than Parica came out.

If you let up on your English you may just hit the side pocket point, something I haven't seen anyone mention in this thread yet. Horrible things happen then.

Maybe a "draw" 2-rails off both short rails could work well but that shot is extremely sensitive to aiming point at that speed.

All in all, without the benefit of more pics or actually standing at the table and seeing the shot I'd say Jose shot the shot the way I'd like to shoot it, even though I don't think I would've hit it as well as he did. I would've gotten from the 8 to the 9 better than he did because I'm not 2' 7" tall:).

I'd have to say that originally I thought he should've went 3 rails but now I think he shot the 7 correctly, and not just for him but for anybody.

Remember that "players" get out of line all the time and run out anyway. When they're hitten' 'em good all they need or want to see is the edge of the ball and they're out.
