Just food for thought -
I mentioned that my opponent ended up miscuing and giving me ball-in-hand. This is how I placed the cueball and played the 5. Noted, with BIH, obviously I can put the cueball much closer to the 5 than how one might position for it so I can afford to set-up more angle on the shot since pocketing the ball is far less difficult.
The reason my opponent miscued - He ended up very flat on the 5 and tried to juice the cueball with a ton of top right. I told him afterward (since he's a good friend) that the key was to create MORE angle on the 5 so that he didn't have to hit the cueball so hard to get around the table. I thought if you were going to err on one side or the other, to err on the side of MORE angle, not less.
Another few important points - we were playing on new cloth, bouncy rails and big pockets. I personally thought since the equipment was going to let the cueball race anyway, give it a good angle and allow it to happen.

I'm right-handed, actually. LOLOLOL. I thought about that but I felt more comfortable going this way. Perhaps follow and spin on new cloth bothers me a bit.
I wonder (being very serious) if I chose to go this way because I was sitting on that side of the table. Had I been sitting on the other side of the table, perhaps I would have thought differently.

I did feel that more angle was better, but not quite as sharp as you placed your BIH would be MY preferred placement. My comment on the flatter angle was just because someone had mentioned it and I tried just to see the differences. There is a wide zone coming off the 5 to still get back down table, though there is that preferred angle most of agree on.
