How would you play this? Discussion

I think people have different patterns in a game on the same shot. They play the position shots based on what they feel comfortable with. Some do it correctly by taking the correct angle into the shot, some do it otherwise.

Choosing the best position route increases your ball making ability and allows you to continue running balls by achieving the correct angle for your next shot.

I have diagrammed a shot that I show two possible routes. ( Could be more, you tell me;) )

Please look them over and let me know what route you would take and why. ie: You feel comfortable; One shot is easier for you than the other; Problems associated with not getting the correct angle; etc.

Or, do you have another method/route, please explain.

Without a doubt, I'm going with choice #2. My biggest reason for choosing this route has to do with my confidence I can successfully get out going this way but also, the alternatives are not going to be much easier. The position of the 8ball is difficult. You have to bridge over it. What's more, there's a lot of travel to be done with little angle. Now, the less comfortable I feel trying to minimize cueball movement, the more apt I am to go to the short-rail and back.

In sum, if I know I can keep the cueball in the neighborhood, I'll take it. It's predictable and not terribly difficult to execute.

Same here. The position of the 8 really is the deciding factor for me. I could see the cueball getting a bit bouncy if you try to pop it around two rails while jacked up over the 8, which would make the shot a bit harder to judge, IMO.

Option B, I'm more comfortable drawing back Inches then following feet.

I think this is least prone to error:

Patrick,

Your CB destination could be just as easily reached sliding up off the 6. Why go 2 rails and complicate things? Just not a good decision for me. I think sliding up off the 6 and drawing back off the 8 for the 9 is the least error prone. Depending on the CB position you could draw back for shape on either side of the 9.

did he say not going low on the 6?? that's amazing coming from one of chickagos best teachers ever. my occipital lobe is throwing the shits and i am absolutely stunned.

For me,, B is the better choice. You are kinda jacked up over the 8 and A requires to much cue-ball movement and good speed control. It's hard to get a bad angle on the 8 using B.
