How Would You Play This? Part II

Amazingly, as obvious as this one may also seem, I always see competent players mess-up these situations. You have a 2-9 that's wired but a tough situation on the 1-ball. What do you do?

If I'm playing you I'm definitely getting the 7...so I'm firing that one cross side into the 7. Easy bank.

I'm aggressive...so if I'm shooting good I'm going to shoot the one into the seven with follow, trying to control it so the one ball will come out enough for a shot in the corner. Then, make the one - and make the two nine. Easier said than done.

If I'm playing tentatively, I play safe off the one.

I beg to differ and feel it can be done. spin the CB wih extreme R and be sure to get to the side rail. OB contact is relatively minor, such that the 1 only moves 4-8 inches. I am leaving the CB on the rail up high (maybe even jacked up over the 2 or 9:eek: ) , so I almost hope there is a window for him to shoot the 1...Of course, if he makes the 1 he will likely play the carom, but I like my chances prior to the exchange better than later.

After reading all the posts (duh, cut it in:rolleyes: ) I think I would probably cut it in as it keeps me at the table, but if I was ducking, I'd play the safe as per above.

Impossible, in my view. I can't get the one under the five and eight with a soft stroke -- I'll need some pace. Even if it were available, I don't like this choice, for if I get the speed wrong or run the one into the five, I can sell out the rack. Also, a ball passes between the five and eight, so executing this shot may not even produce a good result.

I would cut the 1 in the corner. That corner pocket is huge even if you miss it. If you put it in off of the 9, you can just run out...
