How's the layout? Would you play here? Need opinions please!

Okie, going with this as the final design. I just wanted to post once more thanking everyone once again for your opinions. This is a great community, better than I could have imagined.

I look forwarding to becoming a contributing member and serving all the players in my community.

If your in the Temple, TX area be sure to stop by on our grand opening weekend. We will have an 8-ball and a 9 ball tourney where the house is adding $500. Hope to get $1K of prize money for the players that weekend.

Our website is http://www.futurecues.com if you want to stay updated with the progress and find out the tourney dates.

I saw this on the web page: "High tech 55" monitor to show league matches and stats."

What does that mean?

I'm gonna use the IngenPool for tourneys on that monitor, but for leagues I was going to build my own application so we can show the team names, members of the team, what table they are playing on ect. I'm also going to create a database of the players and try to keep up with scores and rankings so everyone can see what's going on. I got several ideas I'm going to be working on while I wait on all the permits to get finalized :)

You may also want to consider separate pricing for men and women. That is standard here in Japan too. Women are like 2 bucks per hour cheaper than men.
MULLY

I like this Idea... Never been to a hall where this was standard practice, but getting the ladies involved will certainly increase the quantity of male customers you have, either as "spectators" or in most cases, spouses and boyfriends that are jazzed by the fact that their girl is enjoying the game.

Another thing to consider for the "slow" nights like monday would be to open up some or all of the tables and charge a single cover to play anyone on any table, something like 10-15 fee for a wristband, and anybody with a wristband can come up and challenge or arrange a game with any other regular.

along the same lines, "half price" or tiered pricing that will put people on your tables between 10 am and 4 pm can only help things.

The layout looks good, and the only suggestion I might make is to actually build one more wall..... I know it is th opposite of everyone elses suggestions, but what I am seeing is if you swap the single and double table are in the "back room" it may allow you to construct a hallway to the bathroom, thereby minimizing interference from restroom traffic.... just an idea, not sure how it would fit.
There is also what seems to be a surplus of floor space around the bar and back towards the office area, and if you were intent on fitting in lounge space like the original plan, it seems like something could be worked out in those areas.
How tall is the building? have you considered a "loft" area like the one in "ames billiards"?

D

Ya I was thinking of doing a ladies free night on Monday to see how it works. If I can't stay busy in peak times I may do half priced ladies as well. Also gonna do a special for daytime. $6 to play for free between 4-7 pm every day.

The extra room in the front is the entry I don't really want anyone blocking it up. Can't do a loft with this building either.

There are 143 chairs on the floor now. Plus take into consideration that people will be shooting, and others will be wondering around. I think we could comfortably fit 175-200 people in here. There are only 5 people on a team with an alternate. I've tried to arrange the tables so there are at least 10 chairs near each table. Do you really think I need more seating still?

The room is 8500 SQFT. The wall that separates the main room from the three tables on the left is a main support and can not be removed. I am cutting 3 6' arches into it to open it up, but I can't do much more without compromising the integrity of the structure.

I agree, I grew up playing on 9 footers as well. You have to provide what your market demands though :)
What is the legal capacity of the building, you are talking about 200 or more people in there? Also do you have parking that can accommodate that number of people?
You also have to know what local ordinances are. In other words a building that has a capacity of 100 people may be quite a few less for a pool room. They often subtract the area the pool tables take up, the bar area and so on before settling on a final number of people you can accommodate. You just don't want any surprises.

My mother-in-law once bought a piece of property that had no water running to it. When she was getting ready to build she discovered the water main was on the other side of the street. It was going to cost her $40,000 to have the city tear up the street and run water to her property. Point is, it is amazing the dumb questions you can neglect to ask.

Max Occupancy after obstructions is 225. 84 parking spots in front of my building. I'm not building anything, I'm just taking over an existing building.

We got a meeting with the P&Z dept. of the city next week where we will go over the layout, survey ect ect. I'll know if there are any surprises before I've invested too much money. We should be good though, another building in this plaza already has a liquor license, and since I'm taking over an existing building everything should be grandfathered.

just a few thought I had would the 2 9 footers fit in that rectangular room? and then take down the 2 walls that make up the room they were in and put all the 7 foots in the same area?

also turning the bar 90 degrees to the left so its the first thing you see when you walk in and all the tables are behind it so to speak.

Looks like I'll have to start from scratch :( They have been talking about expanding I35 for years, and they was not expected to start for another 4 years. I read in the paper this morning that funding was approved for the expansion and they will be starting early next year.

I drove down to the building and had a good look at the property, sure enough there are metal survey plates going right through the middle of the parking lot. I can't open the pool hall there with only 40 parking spots, and don't want to even attempt to build a new business that's going to be plagued with construction and inconveniences for the next 2 years.

Looks like the search for a new location begins and all the work I've put into this one so far was for naught.

Found 2 possible new locations... one is a stand alone building right off the highway with limited visibility. The other is in a shopping center right off the highway with great visibility.

Any of you guys objective to playing in a shopping center pool hall? Would dealing with extra traffic to get in put you off?

actually, marietta billiard club, in marietta, ga (johnny archer's place) is in a huge shopping center and is more or less 1/3 of the way from the left side. there seems to be no problem there with parking, especially in the evening. go for it.

Make $ 1.00 per game and 2.50 per draft. Where are you getting the money to payoff the tournament cash?

You are getting into a pennies game, get all of the pennies you can. Once you start with a price the customers with ***** about any increases. Remember, they don't care if you make you bills, they want everything for free.

I've been considering $1 per game (or $4.50 / hour) since my tables will be nicer than the other places who charge .75 cents. I also have decided to do pints at $1.75 since the original posting. Our place will be much nicer and 2x larger than the other pool halls and bars in our area. I want to keep it affordable and work off volume.

We are going to be the only pool hall with a full bar. We are also going to serve food, have two lounge areas, and a 120" screen put in to show UFC, Boxing & Football.

Better equipment = Leagues & serious players
Food, Liquor & Lounge = Casual Players
120" HD screen = Sports Fans

Not sure what area you are in, but the prices I listed above are mid range for all the bars I've scouted in my area. If I tried to charge $2.50 for a domestic draft in my area they would laugh at me and walk out.
