Huebler Question

I just got a older Huebler Sneaky Pete cue, but every one of the points is a different size, and there is no pattern to then, and none are they same height. I was curious because I was told that Huebler only did full splice, and even his sneakys were full splice and made by him (not a bar cue conversion.) If this is the case, why would all the points be so far off, wouldnt only 1 be off it it was some sort of a second or something. Thanks for the info.

You'll have to ask a cuemaker about "why" the points are off, but I had an old full spliced Huebler and all the points were different lengths as well. I just look at it like it was hand made by Paul and there are imperfections when that happens. I kind of liked it. If the shaft was better I would never have sold it.

There could be many reasons why the points on the cue are not even. The cue could have been refinished at some point by some one who did not have it set up running true when they removed the finish. They may also have turned the cue down, because many of Paul's cues were made very fat in the Butt. Above you stated that you had heard that many Huebler cues were Full Spliced, and yes you are correct they are including your Sneaky Pete, and they were also made in Paul's shop, NOT FROM PURCHASED BLANKS OR HOUSE CUES LIKE ALMOST ALL ARE TODAY.

There is also another possibility concerning your cue, back in the 70's Paul sold some cues as seconds that were not perfect. I grew up in St. Louis and spent allot of time in a Pool Hall called Cue and Cushion in Overland. The owner Bob used to sell allot of Huebler cues and at times he would sell some that were sold as seconds with similar problems to what you are describing, but the priced was greatly reduced. But since you bought it second, third, or who knows how many hands it went through don't blame the cue maker, anyway the problem certainly doesn't effect playability.

Thanks for all the info. I totally wasnt complaining, and sort of feel like its a diamond in the rough. Its the second Huebler sneaky that I have purchased (still have the first) and the first was perfect. I dig the way it looks.

I purchased it from a gentleman in NV that said it has been sitting for the better of 15 years. I got it and the shaft still has the finish and also the original huebler tag. Again thanks for all the info.
