So what if anything are the people in harms way from hurricane Ike doing to protect those expensive custom cues from water damage.
Waterproof cases ... plastic bags?

There are a few cue makers in Houston, Richard Black and Oliver are two that come to mind. I wonder if there will be shaft wood scattered in Houston's streets Sat morning?
 
Putting them in the attic! I think Jerry is on the southeast end of Houston, and Richard is on the northeast. I think both will be in for alot over the next couple of days. I was just at Richard's shop a couple of weeks ago. Right on the lake will not help him much. I hate to think that they may be under water. At a bare minimum, they will both likely be picking up trees and branches.

Roger Allen, William (Toeboy) Rikard, and a couple of others in the Houston area will see more wind/rain than they have seen in a long time. Gary Medlin (GEM cues) in Lake Charles will see some as well.

Plastic bags are probably a bad idea due to heating, cooling, and condensation. All of my wood sat in my shop without electricity and of course without climate control for a week. I don't think it did any harm to well dried wood but I'll let it sit a month or six weeks before cutting anything except a personal toy.

I picked up some butt wood I have been wanting to try off of the side of the road a few days ago. A lot more laying around. It is a little green, just blown down by Gustov.

Just spoke with Olivier he’s in a voluntary evacuation zone, but he’s going to ride it out. He just starting to get hit by the first bands of the storm.
 
I been soaking my Gus and Berry cues this past year and using bubble bath for them and lotion afterwards, the wraps are nicer than ever. Nothing like a good wet cue. They are all about 5" longer and .5" bigger in diameter and 30oz each, nice fat plump Szams. A wet Szam is a happy Szam. Please pass the crack pipe.

Neil,

You're right of course, "butt wood" sounds funny but that is what I call all of my wood, either shaft wood or butt wood. It'll take forever for this stuff to dry other than one piece that was dead already and that piece will have to be stabilized if it is usable at all but one of the things I like to do is play with native woods. These danged storms every few years give me a lot to work with.
