HVLP spray guns/cue finishing

Hi everyone,

A couple years ago I made a bunch of horse jumps for my wife because her new riding facility didn't have any. Well, as it turns out, a few other people have seen them and want me to build them jumps. I have to paint these jumps so I figure this is a good time to use the profits to get a HVLP system that I can use to paint both the jumps and then use for finishes for my cues ( a work in progess ;) ) and other woodworking projects.

I am interested in what other cuemakers are using... turbines or compressors? actual guns or turbines models that work well? anything I should keep in mind when buying?

I am leaning towards a turbine as most articles I've read indicate you need a large 80 gal compressor to have adequate flow and you don't have problems with water contamination and for me it will be by no means a large scale operation. Thanks for any info

I use HVLP system ,too...

I hope I can buy FuJi hvlp system...

recent article in Wood magazine had the fuji Q3 turbine/XT gun along with accuspray 23i-t turbine/10 gun and turbinaire 1235GT/BNB gun among others tested for wood finishes. They all got high marks, the accuspray and turbinaire got the top tool awards due to the fuji only having a minimum fan width of 5" as opposed to 1" for the others. they said it was very quiet tho.

I started off with the Turbinaire systen and it was not good for spraying auto clear coat. I now use the cheapest mini HVLP gun and a $100 compressor from Harbor Freight and am getting great results.

hmm, I have a 10 gal compressor sitting out in the garage. Do you know what gun you have WilleeCue? I'd have to do a bit of work on the compressor tho, its getting a little long in the tooth...

are the Astro mini and Sata guns conversion guns and what kind of compressor do you need to run them? also are they gravity feed or suction and what size needle do you need?

Here is the one I use. I'm sure there are some out there that work better but this is the only one I've ever used so I can't offer any other advice. It's cheap and has served me well.
