hypothetical cuemaker problem

How would you handle this situation? experienced cue customers and cuemakers are encouraged to offer their opinions.

You order your dream cue. Put down a hefty deposit and wait. Many months later a picture of the nearly finished cue arrives in your email and you notice that the veneers are in the wrong order and you are told to pick a different wrap and you dont like the new choices nearly as much as the original.
Do you
1. live with it
2. ask for your deposit back
3. look for a compromise, which may be a cut in price or something else
4. any other options? I cant think of any.

Well,

Since i had a instance happen with my custom cue, i kinda know where your comming from.

I email'd the guy who made my cue and we talked many times about what we could do to make things right. And after about a day we settled on a situation which both of us are happy, and everything is going to be fixed.

If i had order'd from another cue maker, i would have gone about it in the same way too.

But its all upto you, and how the cue looks with the veneers in the wrong order. And with a different wrap. I would try to compromise with the cue maker and see what can happen. Or see what he can do about making the cue as close to what your originally wanted.

Or you could see if he has any other cues that he was making that are not sold yet, and see if you can take one of those in place of yours.

A cut in price could also be a option or just a refund too. Or a % off another cue if you was to get one from him too.

This is kinda one of those situations where you need to come up with a compromise or some kinda meet me half way on this, to make you happy.

think about this for a second........
you don't ask for much. a simple pattern of veneers. a simple wrap. the cuemaker accepts the order but,,,,1..doesn't do one right and 2.. cannot complete the other.

find a competent cuemaker.
 
Hypothetically speaking, if you can be really satisfied with the cue as it is now, the negotiate a price reduction and take it.

If you are not going really be satisfied, don't accept a compromise, get your money back and get what you want.

If you take something you are not happy with, you'll be on here in a month trying to sell it.
 
Difficult one.

I'd say it also depends on which cuemaker you chose. If it was a well known maker, whom I had chosen specifically for his quality and style of workmanship, then I'd probably try to work it out with him. Surely the wrap can't be impossible to find, can it? He could also start from scratch and sell "your" cue to someone else.

If you ordered the cue from a good cuemaker, mainly because he makes good cues at a reasonable price, then I'd probably cancel my order, ask for a refund of the deposit and go someplace else. An alternative to this would be for the original cuemaker to start from scratch and make the cue to your exact specifications.

Bottom line, it's up to you but I feel you would be well within your rights to ask for a refund.

This guy is a custom cuemaker, he took an order, and had no problem taking your deposit. IMHO you asked for something and should get it. You don't do 1, 2 is a last resort, 3 NEVER, 4, ask him to start over and don't screw it up this time.

I wonder what would happen if I finish molded a living room in poplar instead of the agreed upon oak.. I know what would happen. I would have to do it again and would do it with a smile.

Send in "THE UNIT" to take care of the Cuemaker...LOL LOL LOL

But I would talk to the Cuemaker, and Send him Copies of your Order. Than see what He, She, or It will do.

AS a cuemaker I would do whatever it took to make the customer happy if it was my mistake. You don't want a customer dissatified with your work. One AH-SHIT wipes out a hundred atta boys, and no one can recover from bad publicity.

Only accept what you paid for and accept nothing else. If you accept anything else you will regret it. The cue will always haunt you. You will not be happy and you will not play well with it.

Here is what has happened to us. We ordered living room furniture. We had been married 3 years and finally had the money for it. Our chairs came in after 6 months and were not swivel like we ordered. We got a "refund" on that portion. We didn't want to wait any longer and accepted them. We were never happy with them.

Ordered a car. It came in but without one option that we wanted. We didn't want to wait another 2 months. We accepted it. The car was just a car because of that option mistake. Was happy to get rid of it.

Only take what you originally ordered. If not you will regret it.

I completely agree with Chris and the book. As a cuemaker, I would make it right at all costs (to me). I never want anyone to just "SETTLE" for something they really didn't want. Yes, it may be extra waiting time, but you get the cue you want and its not like the maker is out anything except time. The "mistake" cue will most likely be sold to someone else sooner or later.
Insist on what you ordered. If that is not possible, get your money back and go elsewhere. There are plenty of us out here that will give you what you want. JMHO.
