I’m watching new and old pocket billiards tournaments frequently. Saw a suggestion for a three cushion match on YTube and thought I’d see what was up.

I’m now hooked! lol

Good old “pocket” pool is still my main squeeze and always will be, but I’m tremendously appreciative of three cushion.

Not much more to add other than I’m glad I try new things on occasion.

Anyone else here who accidentally got into three cushion?

Friendly warning: once the 3-cushion virus has you, that's it. No known cure.

Nice. I also got bug couple years ago. Our club sold our 3 cushion table last month to be able get 3 more pool tables...
That kinda sucks but i play it on Shooter´s Pool almost daily now. I am very close to 1.0 level now real table and on Shooter´s. Game is just so good you can learn it there too!
I watch rarely pool(nowadays) but i like watch 3-c a lot!
Check another thread here about Blomdahl commentated matches. They are the best and you will learn also. He is best commentator at any cuesport! Such a l class! Some of those are made with Bert, who replied to you already! ;)

I’ve been transitioning to 3C for about 7 years, only being able to play on pool tables and occasionally on a real table. Playing on a pool table actually translates better than you’d think, I am about a .7 from it so it wasn’t in vain. I moved recently and bought a 120 year old converted 9’ carom table for a few hundred dollars, and I am now done with the house and finally ready to set it up. I’m adding Klematch rails and royal pro. Will be perfect to work towards my next goals.

If I want to play pocket pool I just drive to the pool hall 10 minutes away.

I got hooked years ago when I got Robert Byrne's "Byrne's Standard Book of Pool and Billiards" to learn more about pool, but found that half the book was an introduction and primer to 3C. I was fascinated and started playing 3C almost exclusively, even though I stunk at it. The book is still available and highly recommended.

And if you want to get some color, he also wrote a biography of Danny McGorty, a depression era pool bum turned respectable 3C player called McGorty.

My story:
I transferred to SIU Carbondale, IL in 1973. I was required to live in the Dorms. There were 2 Iranians next door and one enjoyed playing caroms.

Stepping back in time: When I was around 8 years old my oldest brother introduced me to caroms on our bumper pool table.

Fast forward to my college days, Ali, an Iranian asked me after learning that history if I would like to go to the Student Union and play some caroms. "Of Course" was my response. He was a decent carom player.

Weeks later we decided to go downtown together and just see whats up. We landed at a pool hall Crazy Horse. In the back of the room was a 9' AMF billiard table and 2 people playing 3Cushion.

We sat down to watch till it was our turn.

Our turn never really came, but what I witnessed changed my life.

I was like, OMG, I Gotta Learn How to Play this Game!!!!!

Great game and still learning new things.

This game and Pool are amazing Sports.
The more you know, the harder it gets.

Tom... Blame it on Rio De Janeior..... No Blame my Addiction to 3C on Deek-a-Mon, The El Jefe (Dieckman) Posses and the USBA.
I should move closer to you. So this crappied player could rip your table felt. But then Yesyura would probably charge me twice as much to repair the felt. No 3C table in Evansville and Cousin won't allow me to put one in his Pole Barn!!!

As you know, I lost interest in 3C, after Dieckman's Death.... The the game still in my Soul and Heart. Darn Dieckman and Bill Johnson... Wait that include You (3kushn)!!!!

Unless a billiard table is unavailable I don’t understand how anyone who picks up a cue does not play 3 cushion or any carom game.

I’ve seen so many players watch but never get on the table even if I or other players try to get them started.
They have no clue what they’re missing.

I can play any game on a pool table but none compare to the fun, creativity, and knowledge a billiard table offers. It’s damm fun.
I’ve been playing since I’m 14.

People who really really want a corner target on a billiard table can just set up a pin a certain distance from the corner. The ball doesn’t disappear but you can play a baulk and a spot on the OB. Just trying to run alternating red / yellow balls into the corner is fun enough to get pool players started on a billiard table.

The next step is 5 pins or carom depending on what they are feeling.

Agreed.

I have 0 interest in pocket games, now that I've discovered 3c.

And what a thing to start a new game without needing to learn the basics. Shortcut!

The problem is the perception. Two balls clicking together doesn’t give a novice observer the same black-and-white dopamine reward as seeing a ball disappear, so they don’t imagine it would be fun to play. When they try it they usually change their mind.

Parasailing looks like it would be fun, and it is.

Being a movie critic looks like it would be fun but it isn’t.

Replacing a roof doesn’t look like it would be fun, and it isn’t.

Novices also get bored very quickly playing pool with a decent player because no matter what the handicap is they usually can’t win or don’t get to shoot or get frustrated that you are better then they imagined, and interest is lost.

Most people don’t like being “bad” at something. They will usually quit.
