I got to thinking last nite about something that is probably common from moderate bar leaguer's like myself up to the top level of play. The movie line that popped in my head was from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, where Brick is explaining to Big Daddy about that click in his head.

So taking that to pool, and thinking about those times when one game / day we're 'off', and the next game / day we're back 'on'. Something changes between those times. We literally 'click' into our groove. We just know when we're on or off our game.

But what I want to know is about that 'click'. What changes? How would you describe what is different or what conscious or subconscious change you think you might have made that allows you to know your switch has turned from off to on, or vice-versa?

For me, this happened after a couple days of rattling more balls and leaving them in the jaws that I could believe, and then the next day, everything was sailing in smooth. Something changed below the surface that had turned all the right connections on, but I was trying to get a better understanding of the what, why, and how that change happened without any conscious input.

I use to shoot good or bad for all the wrong reasons. If I siked myself up to play a match or a game, or a night for that matter I did very well. The problem was I'm basicly a lazy person and keeping that tempo was too much like work. Even though I played pool for money and ego, I still didn't want it to become a second job. I wanted it to be like a working vacation. Make a little money and then do a little partying. After you can make all the shots and play good position the rest is ALL mental. Buddy Hall once tol me that I'd be hard to beat on a bar table if I didn't have another drink after each game I won. Or something like that. Johnnyt
