I broke my BK4 shaft

No. But unfortunately many trades employ esoteric terms. (Some say to impart mystery to an otherwise simple art,) Another term to consider is "ring". For years I was happy in my ignorance until I removed the butt cap from my WHP, and, lo and behold, I discovered not a Hoppe Ring but a Hoppe Disc, "Oh no" quoth the cue makers when I published my observation. As long as I know what is being described, I am ok, but clarity in the first instance is much more preferable, Consider the missives of our absent Cowboy. (Sailors are perhaps the first and worst offenders.)
“The plot thickens” note, for that Hoppe ring, Tascarella on his LOAs for Balabushkas used to call it a “wedge.” Not sure why, but he has since been calling it a ring (maybe!). I wondered if the Hoppe Ring ever was built such that someone would call it a wedge. I can’t imagine it.

Disk? Washer? Wedge (surely not)?

Thus, an unidentified fixed object. We can acronym it to UFO?

lets keep this simple.

LOL. Wow. It is way too early on Sunday morning -- I am still waiting for my first beer. Wedge, huh. Like to hear what those AZB cue makers have to say to Tascarella about that.

Drilling is a correct term. If you were to make a design drawing, you would annotate it as (for example):

1/4” DRILL
6” DEEP

or similar for a blind hole of these dimensions. If it matters that you want a flat bottom, then that should be annotated as well since a drill will leave distinctive shape from the drill bit end.

Depending on how the hole was formed; drilling, boring, or reaming may be the appropriate term.

Secondarily, what you want at the bottom will look like a fillet (a rounded edge) to prevent stress risers. One can modify a 118º drill bit by rounding the corner edge, or by boring with a radiused tip, or with a suitably ground reamer.

Yes. Agreed. It’s why I said that it’s “a correct term,” rather than “the correct term.”

Try a viking crush if you get a chance the whole cue will be less than a new shaft. I have a bk2 and the crush. The crush has a much more substantial shaft.

why hollow a break shaft??? you don't need or want ld for breaking.
I want medium-low deflection in a break shaft, around 13” pivot point ideally to match my breaking bridge length and auto-correct for unintentional off-center strikes.

Hard or maybe impossible to get deflection that low with a solid and stiff 13mm shaft.

Does it get extra breaking power from the pen spring?
holy crap, can't believe you gave that invention away for free on here! me and my team of engineers are on it.

LD, spring loaded break shaft with extra LD and special LD grip!

oh wait, never mind, my team of engineers are still trying to get out of the wet paper bag they found themselves in last month.

ok, i'll see if i can find one of those and order it.

The technical term is "hole" ;-)

All 314's, Z`s, Vantages are hollow, that's the main reason for the minimum diameter warranty on them.

They do fail on occasion but then so do solid maple shafts, nothing much to worry about really. With the amount of Predator shafts out there how often do you see one broken in half that wasn't directly attributed to abuse/accidents. Not much at all.
On racecar stuff that is drilled to lighten like fasteners, axles, etc its called gun drilling.

or "bore", especially on larger holes.
