I can't decide who I want to have build my first high end custom.

I'm with Ken, sit back and wait for something you find appealing, saves money and potential headaches. It seems all the well known desireable cue builders have plenty of work and some only build what they want to. Honestly, I like the cue builders who only want a little input as they may already have something in process that will exceed your desires. I'm a Bob Runde afficiando and thanks to Bava, lol(not sure if it really is reality or not, says he was the end of Bob building customs or not), I know if the weight and shafts are right, I'll love it. Have three now, none completely custom, just basic specs and I love them all. Also I've let atleast one really desired builder I would like a cue for my personal collection with no specific requests. Although I like forward balance and 19oz split approximately 15/4 with Micarta ferrules. I also do believe you should try a cue by the builder you have make a custom, especially if they are known for a particular hit, you may get a amazing cue but if you don't like how it plays the whole process will be a let down. Try, try, try, than place order. I know based on Bava and many more I want a Owen, but before j commission one I want to try one.

I have shot with both Sylver Ochoa's old and new Owens. Plays like a monster.

I have had the opportunity to own/play with cues from some of the top cuemakers available today. My personal playing cue is a Lambros. I think you might be able to
get a cue made for the high side of your budget. If you want a GREAT playing cue,
I will put up a Lambros against any cue available today.

M,

First your post says Murrell but your tag says Mobley. I just don't know what to believe anymore.

lol, every person is going to give you an answer on what is the best cue ever since sliced cheese was invented that will be different from the next person.

If this cue is going to be your player and not just for looks my 2 cents is if I were you I would see if you can test hit a cue from the maker you are leaning toward first. Nothing would be worse than receiving a cue that you love how it looks only to find it hits completely different than what you want. Good luck bud.

If I thought I was confused before, I really am now. Did you get a sex change Matt?

Kenny Murrell and Randy Mobley at the top of my list.

I have said this before, many cue makers are amazing cue builders but horrible business managers. Not the case with Kenny and Randy in my experience. When they commit to a build they provide a very accurate guestimate as to when the cue will be completed. They provide updates during the build process. I never had to chase them once on status. Boom cue at your door step. No BS and long winded excuses as to why they are delayed.

Alyssa Milano says negative on that lol. I alternate between her and Eliza Dushku for my avatar and have several members on here patiently follow me on here to see which picture I am going to switch to next :D

You can barely buy 2shafts with joint protectors from randy for your price point...also I dont think you hav enough time to wait or even get on Randy's list....so with that being said juma joint rings and ebony murrell would fit the range u are looking for...if you have 5 dimes plus and years to wait you list of potential cue makers wil grow...

Here is a nifty Magic Wand by Guido Orlandi... This cue has Guido's new Conical Joint... it is a sweet cue, phenomenal hit.

& yes you can try it before you buy it...

He has about 8 Cues made at the moment. You send me an email & I'll send you some big pics to look at. cb.breakrak@gmail.com

Lambros

I have been fortunate to own/play with some of the best cues in the world. If I had to
pick one cuemaker to build me a custom PLAYER, it would be Mike Lambros hands
down. Period. End of story.
