I Can't Stand it Anymore

I finally came into the money at one of our local 9 ball tournaments. I am still on the plateau I landed on a couple weeks ago. I find I am not worrying about shots or how I need to hit the cue ball. I am also able to get back in line when necessary.

The funniest part is that I ended up in 3rd, but by the time I was playing for 2nd I was so tired, I was rooting for my opponent to clear the table.

Like I said, I'm not bragging but just trying to find out what happened to change things so drastically. One thing that I am totally aware of is that when I miss a shot or position, I no longer walk away from the table mad or think about that shot when I am sitting. I think that is huge.

This is the first time I placed and the players I was playing were pretty good. I'm still super high from this achievement.

WOOOO a post from NewStroke without a punchline!!!!!!!!!

Happy your game is going so well. I hope to someday get to that point.

Thanks for giving me hope.

Awesome job, Monkey! Keep it up so that this good thinking and playing plateau becomes the norm.

And KEEP at it and build that stamina.

Revel in those epiphanic moments

Awesome job, buddy! It's epiphanies like this, that often take you to the next level. You obviously got past a very key mental aspect of the game, and THAT'S BIG!

Some may say that you just had a good night. I, like you, believe something happened internally that changed your "playing chemistry." It could be significant, it could be sublime. You may never find out -- never put a finger on it -- until much later in your pool-playing "career," when you look back and suddenly it hits you what it was.

I had a couple epiphanic moments like this. One was the first time I ever placed in the money in a pool tournament in the 1980s (I remember this like it was yesterday). Another was when I was trying to learn snooker fundamentals (without an instructor) several years ago and couldn't quite "get it," then one day in the heat of battle of a major match, I walked up to the table and assumed a perfect snooker stance without even thinking about it, firing the ball into the pocket with a loud "thwack!"

It's a great feeling, eh? Revel in it, while you can. Tell yourself that you deserve it, because you do!

looking back, there is NOTHING more frustrating then hitting the wall, BUT....it is ALWAYS followed by a new higher level play. So, now, I look forward to frustration so to speak! :)
