I changed the way the California DMV determines the Sales Tax when a vehicle is sold

I still found This hard to believe.
A friend of mine purchased a vehicle 17 yrs old.
He went and got Colorado tags.
The tags were priced based on MSRP when sold., 17 years ago.
So they are taxing yah again.
Cost him $600 for plates.
Prior owner paid $68 annually.
Wonder what the tax will be on my used socks next time I'm at Goodwill.

So didn't i but your ranting on income tax, and this has nothing to do with income tax the OP is asking about sales tax. Which was already paid on this item upon purchase for the contest.
I know. My point was that he didn't beat the system. In fact, paying sales tax (if he had bought it) is very likely about half or less the income tax that is owed because it is income.

Rant? Seriously?

I don't understand why there is sales tax on used cars sold privately in the first place. The tax was already paid on that car when it was bought new from wages that again were taxed
I agree 100%. It's ridiculous. If you have a resellers license, you can buy stuff without sales tax and then you assess the tax when you sell to the consumer. The sales tax happens when a good crosses from the wholesale/commercial space to the consumer market. To tax transactions after that, on presumably depreciating value, isn't right.
