I checked out the Turning Stone Tournament...

Mike Zuglan's Joss Tour had a $25,000 added 9-Ball event at the Turning Stone Casino, a several hour drive from me, so a friend of mine and I went and checked it out. They had a full 128 player field, which included Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza, two recent members of the 'Philipine invasion'. (The original leader of the invasion, Jose Parica, was there too.) A whole bunch of other top players, too; but no Efren, Busta, Corey or Keith

My wife and I were there on Sunday (2 hour drive for me). I was only able to take a few pictures before my crappy digital camera's batteries died. Dumbass here forgot to charge them before I left. I'll post them when I get home.

I have been to the last two of these events (On Sunday) and I am continually amazed at how much I enjoy it. Aside from weird things happening on the way home:

• February: I got caught in a snowstorm and it took me 5-6 hours to get home
• This time there was a bad accident on 81S that had everything tied up in Syracuse for hours. Took me 5.5 hours to get home.

So I guess I'll have to start staying up there and take Monday's off from work because it sure isn't going to stop me from attending these tournaments.

If anyone is able to attend this event, I highly recommend it.

I will NEVER, EVER forget driving home from Turning Stone in a snow blizzard. I had to be at work by Monday morning, with jobs due, and there was no way that I could stay overnight. It was so bad that trucks were pulling over until the blizzard subsided. The worst, though, was being sleep-deprived and driving alone while my shotgun partner snored all the way home!

I will never make that mistake again, having work facing me on a Monday after a pool tournament. It takes me several days to recover from these pool events. Yes, they are a lot of fun, but they are also draining for these old bones of mine!

Nah... I dropped a c-note. Was up and down and finally finished down. In February I ended up just under $1000 ahead playing poker and Let it ride

Tony Chohan dabbled a bit. He said he was up a little when I talked to him. He now hails from the Detroit area.

Jenny, I know you and Keith have been to a few of these, but this was my first. Sorry you guys couldn't make it!

Keith loves the Turning Stone Casino and Resort. In fact, most of the pit bosses downstairs at the table games know Keith well.

When Keith first makes his appearance known and walks up to the crap tables, the pit bosses greet him, in an Irish brogue, "It's McCrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeedy." Keith eats it up, "How ya' doing, boys? McCready has entered the building."

We've been lucky for the most part gambling at Turning Stone, some trips better than others. I do remember a few years ago when Keith formed a backers committee of pool players, so that he could have a bigger bankroll to throw the dice. He had every number lit up several times, and the whole place was jumping, surrounding his table. Everybody was betting on Keith, hooping and hollering. $15,000 later, Keith was one happy camper! He had black chips falling out of his pockets.

For those who don't know who they are in the picture, that's Keith McCready, Mark Hatch (Dennis Hatch's uncle), Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh, Sugar Shane, and a virgin dice shooter friend of Mark Hatch's. This kid was on cloud nine that weekend, stating it was the most money he had ever won in his life.
