I doubt this story. Efren's limited communication skills in English would have been a big obstacle to him working in this capacity. I believe that Mike Sigel was the first and best choice for this job, although Herb Lehman worked with Newman prior to filming. I spent one day coaching Cruise on the nuances of 9-Ball and the various actions of the players. He asked me a lot questions and was really paying attention throughout the day. I thought he was a very bright young man at the time. He was not yet a big star until Top Gun came out.

Didn't COM and TG come out the same year? IIRC TG came out a little before COM. TC made some coin in those days.

Just to add to the Tom Cruise story while working on the set of " Far and Away " I offered to play Tom a race to 11 in 9 ball for $ 1,000.00 he turned me down and I had the cash in hand too .
I should've waited and asked when Ron Howard was within ear shot then maybe it would've happened ?

The Reyes brand of pool doesn't fit the American "hot stick"/machine/womanizer model either.

This was sent to me from a pool playing friend.
Per Jay, I now don’t believe it
Sorry I posted it.

It seemed reasonable when I first read it.
