I didn't know who they were....

....It was about 10 years ago that this story takes place. It was my first run-in with these guys. The two of them came into Cuetime Billiards that night. They were new guys and looking for action. The one guy was athletic, dark haired and sorta GQ'ed.The other guy was pretty fat and dumpy with blond hair.Had a dumb look on his face.Reminded me of a little kid.He didn't talk much either. They came and hung out that night for a while, then left.I was wondering who they were. They got pretty chummy with everybody.Real likeable guys.
Anyway, the next night they came in again. The dark haired guy was looking to play someone some 9-ball.He was clearly the better player of the two if one was just judging by appearance. He was very outspoken and confident, showing us and trying to get some cash on proposition shots. The fat kid sat in the corner and didn't say a word. The hours went by and the dark haired guy had a few games,no big deal.
At some point the guy asked if anyone played one pocket. This sparked my attention.I asked my backer if we could play him some.He said no.Didn't think I could win. Then the guy said that his friend would play some.My backer became interested at that point.I am a pretty good one hole player and this kid seems completely incompetent to even talk straight. To make a long story shorter,we decided that I would play the kid for $1000.My backer at the time liked to bet big and this dark haired guy didn't seem shy.
So as we were negotiating for a while,my backer got leary and started to smell fishiness.I didn't see a problem.I wanted to play. But for some reason my backer decided to abort the bet."Forget about it" he said.Oh well, that was that.I went home and never seen those guys again. They came through town and disappeared.
I quit hanging in poolrooms shortly after that.In fact,I stopped following pool altogether.About 6 years later,I am at my house watching ESPN.A pool match was going to air in a few minutes and I figured "what the heck".I haven't watched pool in a while.Might as well.So as the two guys come out to play,I notice one of them."Who is that guy?"It drove me nuts.I knew that I had seen his face before.I just couldn't put my finger on it.I watched the match for a while and heard the guys name being mentioned by the commentators over and over.I still couldn't put my finger on who the guy was and how I knew him.
When the match was over,I left the house wondering who that guy was.I thought about it for days, on and off. Then one day a light went on.I couldn't believe it.It was that fat, dumpy kid that wanted to play me some one pocket years ago at Cuetime! That was it."Wait a second" I thought."That guy wasn't any good,or was he?"So I got on the internet and googled his name.Several websites came up and I chose a few.One had a really good article about his life on the road with his friend."That was the dark haired guy who was showing me all of those proposition shots" I thought.
When I put 2 and 2 together,I came to this realization that was pretty exhilirating."I'll be dammed" I thought,"I was that close to being hustled by Bristol Bob and Danny Basavich!!"...........True story

Seriously, this is truly a great story.

If you would've played that dude, damn...you would have won our contest with flying colors, haha.

I am kind of curious if you know how much money he won during his stint through your pool room...

so i can use that as an average to calculate just how many rooms he had to go to get to $500,000.00 before getting "noticed"

Obviously some spots had larger returns than others. In the book they talk about leaving a Philly room with $20k (if I remember correctly). And other places like Akron, OH.... they only made off with a few hundred. So I dont know if you will be able to calculate such a varying thing very accurately.

I don't think they won much at Cuetime to be honest. As a matter of fact,I don't think Danny had any action there.Bristol Bob had a few games, but no biggey. They were there for one weekend as I recall.Friday and Saturday night....then poof!
I am kinda surprised, because my backer at the time liked to bet big.He was an action junky. However,he was pretty smart when it came to pool action.

Won which contest?
BTW---I am glad I didn't play him obviously. But the experience of being involved personally with "Kid Delicious" and Bob Begey is something that few can say they have. For some reason, they crossed my path in life years ago.Why?......The heck if I know:)

Another thing I remember was them telling everybody that they were from Canada.Niagra Falls area.I guess they were close, seems how Danny is really from the Jersey area...??

Exactly. And not only that, but what about the other pool rooms around Chicago?I am only referring to Cuetime, which back then at that time was the top action spot in the Chitown area.Chris's up on the north side was good then too,but only open till midnight or so.Cuetime was 24-7.My point is that they could have very well made good money at some other room that same week or same time period. You never know.

I just thought of this...If there IS a upcomming movie about DB...this could very well be a scene or two in the movie...

You never know....

Don't underestimate (or overestimate) Hollywood...

What exactly is the significance of watching a 3 minute "teaser" sex scene during a movie???

I can understand showing the beginning and flash to the end....but to show 3 or 4 minutes???
