i finally did it

a couple weeks ago the owner of our local billiard supply store came up to me at league night admiring my cue and offered to buy it. i politely turned him down but we continued to talk about different cues and the subject of chalk came up.

he said he carried kamuii chalk but it sold as fast as it came in and he was currently out. i asked him to save me a cube out of his next shipment and i would come get it.

i picked it up yesterday on my way to a 9 ball tournament. i also picked up a chalk holder, more on that later. as other posters have described it goes on silky smooth like make up. now i have never used make up but i guess thats about the most accurate description i could come up with also.

i am one that chalks after every shot and i continued my same routine yesterday throughout the tournament. at the end of the tournament ( came in 2nd btw ) i i looked at my cube and supprisingly saw very little wear on it . is it worth 25.00 ? too early to tell, but i will admit i have spent 25.00 on lesser things.

for whatever reason when i picked up the chalk they had the foil packaged cube in a zip lock bag. i thought man thats a great idea. i saved the zip lock bag to store my chalk in inside my case. that will keep chalk from getting on everything. i have always used a small zip lock bag to keep my magic eraser in and put it inside a larger zip lock bag that hold a micro fiber rag, sand paper and other assorted items. that all fits tightly inside my large pocket on my case. just never thought to use a bag for my chalk which i keep in the small pocket.

as i said earlier i also bought a chalk holder. i have never used one before but thought it was a godd idea to invest in one to keep tabs on my chalk.

after trying out the various ones they had i decided to go with a magnetic one. the reason being , it held the cube tightly with the two prongs on each side. with the other 2 sides open it will be easy to chalk your cue till you wear the cube all the way down to a nub. other chalk holders that grip the cube on all 4 sides make it hard to use the entire face of the cube resulting in a drilling effect on the cube.

at first wearing that chalk holder was a pain in the a$$. several times i bumped up agaiant the table and knocked the cube off the holder. after adjusting the clip to half way between my side and my back pocket i had no more issues with it.

like any thing else , it takes a little getting used to doing something that you are not familiar with.

overall i am pleased with the performance of both items.

My concern, and this is not paranoia just experience, the chalk disappearing. You would have to have it on a string attached to you for someone not to take it, be it intentional or by mistake. I am betting if you are not completely vigilant, it will be gone in a night or two. Especially, if someone knows what it is and what it cost. That is just the way it is.

I had a gold plated tip tapper that was stolen by a player at a tournament, (You would know the name), the first time I put it down. When I confronted him it was like,"Oh, was that yours", as he handed it back. Needless to say I never bothered taking it anywhere again. A $25.00 piece of chalk, forget about it, it will be gone in no time.

I have a cheap $8 chalk holder that I've hung onto for almost two years now.... Just a matter of getting used to it. I usually put it away when I'm not in a match, so as to not accidently lose it

Don't understand the reason your chalking every time???? I scuff and chalk before every match .... that's it .... in the last 5-6 months I'd say I miscued maybe 3 times and it wasn't the chalks fault ... I'm not a pro and trying to do to much ....

I kept the little aluminum ?? bag it came in and store it in it .... I thought it was so that it wouldn't DRY out .... like you said it's like a grease pencil

they did have a chalkholder with a retractable string that clipped on your belt. i tried it out but the cube got lost in it. the sides were darn near a half inch taller than the cube. also the cube did not fit real snug in it. a customer that was in there at the same time said i could take an exacto knife and trim the sides down and either use tape to around the cube to make it fit more snug or use a dab of super glue in the bottom.

i did not want to go through all the trouble of modifying it to work to my satisfaction.

you are right about people picking up anything they think they can get away with.

i only paid 9.00 for my chalk holder. i used it today in another tournament today and tonight at league. it was not no where near the pain in the a$$ to use as yesterday. guess i am getting used to it pretty quick.

i put it up right after a match also.

keep making the great posts you do on here and i am sure santa will bring you a cube lol.

chalking before every shot is part of pre shot routine while i am contemplating my next shot. i think you really dont need to chalk after every shot with this chalk. i just dont want to change any thing in my routine unless it would make me a better player.

i only scuff my tip as needed, usually about once a month. i dont shoot any harder than needed so it takes a while to glaze over or mushroom.

i kept the bag it came in also but i think a zip lock bag is more airtight.

I would rather worry about making the balls and winning then where my chalk is, not a Kamui basher, I play only with Kamui black medium and love the tip, did not care for the chalk. I am okay with using Masters, I do keep some Blue Diamond in my case that was given to me, I like it.

Change your habit of chalking-Think outside the box people.

I can feel a difference in friction! I'd rather pocket more balls in less time. Some people are faster shooters . Take Rodney Morris Style look aim shoot. People own thousand dollar cues 500.dollar cases, seperate break cue ,jump cues. and people complain about 25. bucks for chalk get real people . I get nothing from Kamui- when I should- I bought Kamui tips in 2005 at 13.50 apiece for 110. Plus 1100 for a cue and 500 for a case. The tips were 1350. My wife thought I cracked at the Hopkins show. everybody have a great thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. Thanks for being outthere!! Mark

by the end of the 2nd day, after figuring out the best position to place my chalk holder i got to the point i was not concerned at all about where the chalk was while shooting.

you do realize people walk out of the pool hall every day with .25 masters. one of them walking out with 25.00 kamuii would make them feel like they found a gold mine.

it would not be the end of the world if somebody stole a 25.00 cube of chalk from me but if they stole my 5,000.00 cue i would be highly pi$$ed .
