I finally made my decision

Hello again, people. I have finally made my decision on which shaft to buy. I bought a McDermott I-2 shaft, and like it a lot. The feel is alright, and the spin is pretty good as well. I have had a total of 10 hours playtime with it since Monday (the day I got it), and had no problems getting use to the deflection or anything. And I DID get MORE spin (with less effort) with this shaft than my Espiritu shaft. I would like to thank ALL the people who posted, and who helped me with my situation of buying a new shaft (as posted on this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=60144&page=3 ). I would especially like to thank poolplayer2093, belmicah, SPINDOKTOR, mariopatricio, ccn7, KOOP and to those who kept the thread on the subject (opinions, and sharing experiences).Also, a big thanks to Joe Nielsen from Nielsen's Billiards for the sweet deal on the shaft! Thanks people!

OK, I'll bite. Can you explain HOW???? By not moving the tip so far from center? I'd REALLY like to know how you get more spin with less effort.

I can't explain exactly how, but I think it's because of the way the shaft is constructed. It also has a nice long taper which I like. The shaft doesn't give a really solid hit, but it isn't whippy either. I had an Everest tip put on the original shaft, and this shaft has a Moori, so the tip on it isn't really that big of a factor for spin. Just try a demo at your nearest authorized dealer, and see if you can notice a difference. I wouldn't say I LOVE this shaft, but I like it enough to shoot with it.
 
I recently got an I-2 and I haven't been entirely pleased. It's not as easy for me to draw the ball, and I think I'm not used to the taper. For comparison, I pulled out my old Joss with a 13mm triangle tip and had an easier time drawing the ball. Also had an easier time moving the ball around the table. Not saying there's anything wrong with the shaft, but I'm not sure it fits my game--haven't given up on it yet, but I've got a new schon coming and I think that will be a better fit.

Well, the I-2 has a thinner taper, and is much lighter than most shafts. Try adding a little more weight to the butt to make up for the small weight change that the shaft causes. For me, when the weight of my cue is off by .3oz - .5oz, it becomes noticeable, and becomes a bother. If you don't like tapers like the one the I-2 has, go for a 314-2. Their shafts are slightly heavier than the I-2 because of their different pro taper.

As for drawing the cue ball, it became a little easier for me. The difference is not dramatic, but is noticeable.

i'd like to say your welcome man. i like seeing people get the advice they're looking for and not a lecture instead. glad you like that shaft, i tried one at a billiards store (it was on predator sneaky pete, is that ironic?) i liked it too

The I series shafts have a laser guided carbon fiber core with a very nice
wood grain laminate. most bang for the buck. :p
