Grady can care less about playing in the tournament. It's the principle. How will we grow as a sport if we can't even do things fairly? He is a voice we need on matters that may promote or hinder our sport. We have a platform that integrates ideas from a large population of players who can voice their support for whats right. He has done a lot for pool and we owe it to him to at least process his ideas...whether you're a pool player, poolroom owner, tournament director....he's climbed all those mountains.

well to be totally honest...if you want complete fairness...there are then zero wildcards....everyone has to qualify....anything else would be subjective..

I think you have your facts a little mixed up there. No one gets to play all the Majors without qualifying for them. There are ways to qualify - being a former champion at the Masters gets you a lifetime exemption. Winning any major earns you a 5 year exemption for any major tour event. You don't just get to show up because you used to be good, or are a legend.

Tom Watson lost to Stewart Cink in a playoff last week at Turnberry, good for second place. It wasn't enough to automatically qualify for next month's PGA Championship, but like Norman, he will likely be extended an invite. Also like Norman, it sounds like Watson will take a pass. Via the Associated Press:

As a past champion of the Open he is exempt until he is 60. Watson needs to win to extend his exemption another 10 years. The 5 year exemption you speak of is for the pro card needed to play in any event during a given year. Using WIKI relieves you from all credibility here.
Get YOUR facts straight!

stop littering the forum with facts. People will say stuff like Tom Watson plays all the majors without even looking at which ones he's played. The last time Watson played in the US Open was 2003 and before that 2000. The last time he played in the PGA Championship was also 2003. He wouldn't have played in those two, nor the past couple of British Opens had it not have been for his victories in the Senior British Open which qualified him for the regular British Open.

Ask Davis Love about being invited on past merit. He is arguably one of the 5 best American players of the past 20 years. He has won 20 PGA Tour Victories and a Major, and has been on the Ryder Cup team countless number of times. Not to mention he still finishes in the top 10 every now and then and can still drive it as far as anyone.

He didn't qualify for the Masters or the US Open this year and didn't get an invite. Instead he played in a 36 hole qualifier for the US Open and didn't get in, and just sucked it up and didn't say anything about not being able to play at Augusta this year.

I wish people would actually know something about a subject before posting.

My friend I know a bit about golf.... I'm a +1 and you can look it right up on the internet. http://www.usga.org/ (Richard Gregory Taylor). Kinda like you did with all your previous golf facts. My facts are fine.... my post was fine.... I said he plays in 4 majors... I didn't say when... but ty for proving me correct. I just mentioned him because of the recent open ...obviously. If you compare grady's contributions to his sport and Love's contributions to golf... you would be stupid to argue the topic at hand. I wish people would actually read a post before insulting someone first. Hell, you post on here everyday and can't play pool a lick wtf?

having legends, (and Grady is definitely a legend in pool playing) in tournaments is good for the sport and the viewers.
but politics is always involved in these things and people that speak up when things arent right are the last to be invited. and if it was your tournament you might do the same thing.

and what does that matter? Does it make my opinion any less than someone elses.

I have owned a pool room, staked several pros, know most of the pros personally, have gambled for more than most, have put on tourneys with added money from my own pocket, buy every ppv that is offered to support those actually trying to do something for pool, etc..etc...

Does that make my opinion any more than someone elses? Absolutely not.

Since you are a +1 and I'm an 8 and yes, you can look it up as well. I will take only 3 a side and play you for as much as you make in a year.

I do not know you, but hope I get to have a beer with you. You my friend, are out of hand. Best sh*t I've heard all week.

Grady,

It's obvious by the lack of participation on the forums by many of the other pros that there must be a reason why most of them refrain from posting on here.

It is unfortunate that many people on here are going to be confrontational simply because they know that they can get away with it.

Rest asured that you have many fans on here, but if you are going to put yourself out there, then you are going to have to have thick enough skin to take some of the criticism.

OK - I'll bite. Which 4 majors does Watson play in? Senior events don't count. Your first post said "auto invite". The AP said he'd "likely be extended an invite". So, likely = auto. Got it.

When should we expect to see John Daly invited to all the events? He won a Major.

Uhmmm...you insult me ... and now... its this is just my opinion? WTF?
You jump me for having a opinion.... and now your backtracking. Does my ..what did you call it..."lack of knowlege" about golf have any bearing on posting here? Valid question since you said it?

For the record... if your an 8 then smartass you can come up here since your getting a spot and play me here..... and you got 3 a side. I make well over what your willing to bet I can guarantee!! But I'll muster up a few dollars to make it worth your arrogant arse making the trip. You been called out!!

We can PM the details if you would like.

ok I gotcha... You like to point out others mistakes but won't acknowlege your own. This happens quite a bit with you I've noticed. You haven't addressed any of the numerous mistakes you posted correcting me... how ironic!

BTW Daly has won 2 majors.

kindly point to where I insulted you. I simply said I wish you'd know something about the subject matter before you post. You said that Watson and other stars of yesteryear play all 4 majors and I listed facts proving otherwise. The last time Watson played all 4 majors was 2003.

In your lates post, you stated that you just meant they played them all but you didn't state when. Well, what would that matter? Of course they've played all the majors before, wtf? But, not in their later years, past their primes. That was the whole argument.

In regards to the golf, I'll fly to Virginia tomorrow. Go to the nearest club and wait for me on the first tee.

And you didn't answer my question. What 4 majors did Tom Watson play this year? Remember, no senior events.

Here's some help:

OK, Bone. Here's my post. Light me up - where were my NUMEROUS mistakes?

Does winning the Masters get you a lifetime exemption at the Masters?
Does winning any major earn you a 5 year exemption to any PGA tour event?
Can you play a Major without qualifying?

Remember, I made NUMEROUS mistakes. Point them out to me.

no pm from Vette as of yet ... as I thought.

Shawn....I already posted the answers you seek.... but here they are again.

"No one gets to play all the Majors without qualifying for them"
you are wrong!
