I hate calcutta's

and I think I'm the only one. I guess because I'm not much of a gambler. Seriously I'm bored 20 mins. after I get to a casino. I play hard for free and I'm to responsable to wager that much money that would really mean something to me. I just don't need it to get the adrenaline flowing. I enjoy the team aspect of leagues and like playing in tournaments but it pisses me off when you see what's going to be a good match at a tourney and then one of them lays down because he has the other in the damn Calcutta. I swear it happens at every tournament that I'm at. Am I the only one?

I hate the time involved. One or two calcuttas at a large event often takes hours and the advertised start of the pool tournament is pushed back that far. I came to play pool not listen to an auction. I have seen start times pushed back three hours while they were messing with the calcutta!

Probably not, but you're probably in the minority. I personally haven't seen too much of the kind of stuff you describe. But, with all the crap being posted about Jeanette Lee and the calcutta, I'm not surprised to see this. Again, not everyone will agree with your opinion. I don't, and from your post, we don't agree on a lot of things.
 
I don't like ANYTHING, that if i decide to participate, i have to follow every single bid and purchase, and keep tack of ALL the money so that i can find out if i'm being ripped off or not, or if the "i'll take 10% for RUNNING the calcutta" fee is on the up and up.

Forget that crap.

JUST FRIGGIN PLAY POOL!!!!

Start on time for once, instead of 2 hours after the fact cause some name player is running late, and they can't have a decent calcutta without them or some other truly ridiculous bullcrap that happens all the time
 
I don't care for them either. I play for myself and I don't want any form of obligation to another person there, directly or indirectly. I also rarely gamble anymore and I don't choose to bid on myself. They like to embarrass you over the PA system you if you don't bid on yourself and then the person that DID buy you gets irate if you don't want to buy back half. It's mainly an annoyance and only serves those who have to gamble to maintain interest. IMO
 
Oh I don't buy my half and most know that now. Not interested in any part of it.

So there is no misunderstanding I don't have any problem with pool players gambeling. I do play some cheap sets now and then but it's never with people I'm guaranteed to beat. The purpose isn't really to make money. It's more to get the best game out of the guys who I play who are good players who don't give it thier all if it's for nothing. But you play a race to 5 for a few shillings suddenly it's like they're in the U.S. open. lol

If you want to go gamble ..find a table and go do it. have a blast. I just don't think it belongs mixed into a tournament.
 
I don't enjoy sitting around for long periods of time waiting for the tournament to start, then having someone telling me I'm playing slow. I would like to see prepaid entry fees and an online calcutta. I wouldn't have a problem with something like that. I also think they should pay as many spots in the calcutta as they pay in the tournament. Why should the rich, keep getting richer? I think more people would buy themselves if they paid more places.

Tom,

I do understand your point about paying further back but I think if anything the purse itself is what should be adjusted. The calcutta is optional and nobody has to get in one at more than minimum price at worst to play in a tournament. Even when I am playing like crap I like top heavy payouts. To the winners go the spoils. If I am just contributing right now I need to toughen up and win some of the top spots myself.
