I went to a lot of trouble to do a comprehensive post about Ronnie Allen and it vanished, just didn't go through. Maybe I'll do another later. This particular quirk of computers really annoys me.

If I make or reply to a thread that is more than a sentence or two, I always do it in another program. Either word or email or something. Then copy and paste it into here.

That's unfortunate, as I'm sure yours would have ben a very interesting post.

If I might offer a piece of advice, Grady, when I write a long post, I write it in Microsoft Word, and when I'm finished, I cut and paste it into the AZB forum. That eliminates my exposure to losing a post into which I invested a lot of time.

It's always the great post that get lost that way Grady!...don't be discouraged....you've got us all anticipating that post now:D

Whenever I make a long post, I highlight the text and hit Ctrl/C (copy to clipboard) that way if it is lost, just open another new post and paste it in..

Grady this has happened to me twice already, both of them were long and well thought out posts, and when I hit the submit reply, it said I wasn't logged in (even though I was) and I lost the entire post, after typing each of them for at least 15 minutes. The last time it happened to me I felt like punching thru my computer screen, but luckily a bunch of nurses in white gowns grabbed ahold of me and injected me with a large dose of valium (kidding).

Seriously, from now on if I write anything that takes longer than two minutes, I make for damn sure that I highlight the whole post and then hit ctrl+c to copy it, just in case I lose it again. That way I can just start a new thread and hit paste and your whole text will have been saved. I know how frusted you feel, been there done that. :(

to bad..

Grady,

Sorry to hear that, we would all have loved to read that post. As people said, I think hitting "ctrl a" then "ctrl c" is the best defense against that. however, if it does happen again, maybe just try going "back" in your browser. i'm sure you tried that, but if you didn't maybe next time.

Regards.

The people that run this site need to allow people to be inactive for a longer period of time. While writing (typing), the computer thinks you are not active, so you get logged-out automatically. It is a real bummer. When I first joined, it would never log out on its own... then they changed the look of the page and now we get kicked off for a minute of inactivity....

I have lost too many posts this way!

Grady... Please do it over as I would love to read it!

Thanks, my wife showed me how to save it.

Grady the word is Jurassic, we both are Old Dinosaurs. Born B.C. as in before Computers, Palm Pilots, Cable T.V., VHS’s, DVD’s, Cell phones, and what I like to refer to as the Good Old Day, that I sure mis.:D

In most browsers I've seen, hitting "back" should take you back and your entry should still be there. You can then copy it, log back in, and paste it.

SESA. Save early, save often. Since my OS never crashes (though an app might), I routinely copy things to the clipboard. Worst case (app crash, "log out", etc.) I can then paste it into a text file for temporary keeping until I can paste it back into the app that needs it.

I highlight my post and copy before I click send...

If there are any f'ups, I just reopen a response box and paste.
