I have a confession to make...

Thanks for the responses guys.

I spent a little over an hour today working on my break. Focusing on a full hit on the apex ball, extended follow through and a level cue. I was getting some good layouts and my break was beginning to look and sound more formidable as well. I had ringing in my ears after a few of them :D.

I didn't get to finish a session against the ghost as a friend of mine arrived earlier than expected, but when I quit I was up 4-1. That is I broke and ran 4 racks (personal best in 8 ball) and then hooked myself on the 8 ball in following rack :(.

Oh yeah and I also managed the run with a house cue too :).

Now I guess I should buy Play Your Best 8 ball by Phil Capelle.
Cameron: Capelle's 8 ball book is fairly comprehensive. One tip that I got from Capelle's book on playing defense is learning to recognize when you won't be able to run out the table. In those situations, Capelle recommends playing safe and not making more than 3 balls at a time.
