I have trouble wearing contacts.....

I should be wearing contacts, but I have a hell-of-a-time getting used to them.....most of the time I don't bother, although they would help my pool game. (I think wearing them in smoky bars doesn't help either). The edges of them irritate my eyes, and sometimes my vision blurs....then I have to blink to clear them up....not something a person would want when trying to play pool!

My eye doctor today suggested ones called Focus Dailys (wear once, then toss). I've tried them before, & had problems. I've also tried Accuvue Advance & had problems. My eye doctor also told me he would not recommend Lasik surgery, said my eyes weren't that bad that I would need it.

At this point, I'm wondering if I should even bother with contacts (while playing pool or not). I don't like wearing glasses, & think they would bother me while shooting. I'm near-sighted; hell, maybe I don't even need anything for pool. But, I do feel my poor vision affects my play somewhat.

Anyone else have problems with contacts??

Decot HyWide Shooters glasses work great for me. Had my eye doc write a lens prescription to have optimum vision from 2 to 12 feet and I love wearing them for pool. www.decot.com

Legally I'm not supposed to drive without my glasses. I do it anyway sometimes, but my vision is pretty much shot. Looking at this computer screen hurts my eyes. I've never had contacts and I usually just keep my glasses in my car for use while driving and at the movies, sporting events, or whatever else I have to see at distance.. I've tried playing pool with my glasses before but if I look through the lens I'm standing too tall and if I get down to my normal stance the rims end up in my line of sight. So I decided to just stop wearing glasses while playing. My game hasn't suffered at all although after playing all day my eyes hurt and I all the balls become colorful blurs. I'd say give it a try without wearing anything. I'm near sighted too but 9 feet isn't all that far away. And on a barbox...forget it, you have to be just about blind not to see those buckets. Just to give you an indication of how poor my vision is...I can write a note on a piece of paper, put it on the floor and I can't read it while standing over it.

I can't read this screen sitting only 2' away without contacts or glasses. I have the same problem has above with contacts so I loaded up on re-wetting drops, cleaners etc. After an hour or so its like I’m trying to look through waxed paper or smoked glass. I have to clean every 30min and put them back in. Using contacts probably doubled my game…I didn’t qualify for Lasik. My eyes are too bad. That sucked.

Just take a month or two to get used to them. I spend lots of time in a VERY smokey pool hall and they've never bothered me. Even if they irritate you a little, I'd take them over glasses. A buddy I play with has contacts that he puts on right before he plays and takes them off right after his last set.

I was going to say about the same thing. It takes a little time to adjust to contacts. I got used to mine after a couple of weeks once I started wearing them for the first time last year, after doing the glasses thing exclusively for the past about 15 or so years.

And I'm kinda similar to Koopa's bud - I generally only wear contacts for pool. Though I put'em/take'em off at home, generally, before heading out for league/a tournament and once I get home. I'm not as timely with my contact action as his pal. :)

Oh and contacts ROCK for snowboarding (the other thing I wear'em for). :D

Keep at it for another week or so - if you're still having troubles, then it may be that contacts just aren't for you. :(

See if your doc will give you a sample pair of accuvue Oasis. I believe they are new and the best soft contacts I have used to date. Of all the accuvue's, these allow the most oxygen in your eyes which prevents them from drying out. I have tried several different kinds of contacts in the 10 years and these are simply the best I have used. I have worn the same pair now for 3 weeks w/o any thought of tossing them yet. With other brands, I am ready to toss them after 2 weeks. But not a hint of dryness in the smoke filled pool halls/bars with the O's.
As for the edge of the contact bothering you, perhaps it is not fitting your eyeball properly-doc should catch that or you might be putting them in backwards. That hurts bad if they are put on inside out. Not so easy to see first thing in the morning, but you know when they are in your eyes. OUCH.. :)

One day, after wearing soft contact lenses for 7 years, I felt something irritating in my eye. It was as if some sand was caught in my eye. I took the lenses of, I irritation went away. For a few weeks I noticed it till I can't take it anymore and started to wear my glasses again. I though maybe my contacts were torn. So i ordered a new pair, and it was still the same. My conclusion: I've got a scratch on the inside of my eyelids. Probably abused my contacts too much.

I just started using Acuview Oasis contacts and they are much better than the ones I was using...it's just a matter of getting used to them...

I'm blind as a bat, I have to have eye correction as soon as I wake up to basically do anything. I have the exact opposite problem. I can't play in my glasses, I hate how I can't see in my side view, and they always seem to slide down, or get in the way, or some other problem.

I play in my contacts only. Never had any problem with them, my vision is always clear.

But, I've been wearing them since I was 15 or so. So, over 10 years now.

I recently switched from the Acuvue 2 to the Acuvue Oasys contacts. They have a lot more oxygen flow, and you are supposed to be able to wear them overnight. I don't though, they still make my eyes feel like crap.

I have glasses, and I wear my contacts all day and then put my glasses on right around the time I am ready to just put my pajamas on and watch TV. My eyes feel great with them. Maybe give them a try.

Some people just can't get used to or wear contacts though I think.

Bausch & lomb multi focal(cost twice as much only down fall) & Amo complete mositure plus solution.never a problem you can wear them all day
