I am gonna go do it. How much do ya think I outa take with me? $200, $300??? I will keep ya informed on the outcome. Play the score, when behind, play like a lion, when ahead, play like a lamb. Do I got it right? $20 a stick, pills for partner every game. Sounds like fun. :D Any advice is welcome.

Did you happen to check out the
Getting Started page at OnePocket.org? That's written especially for players just discovering the game. I'd be curious to hear what you think -- if it was helpful, seeing how I might have written it :)

What you found about the creative engagement in One Pocket -- that might be the thing that makes the game most appealing for amateur players. Of course for top players, there's a lot of money in the game as well, which can be very appealing!

Good advice. I been playing one pocket with higher level players for about ten years. I don,t play a bad game myself. I have never been a gambler either. I know ya shouldn't play with scared money. That's not my problem though. I am gonna go ahead and play em. I'll take a couple hundred with me.

Good little article. Reads like a lot of the things I'm being taught. I think it will be some time though before I can say "I play One Pocket"

Hey Hondo, how's it going buddy? I now work in Winchester VA. one day a week. Not much going on at the job until they finish putting in all the equipment. SOOoooo, I headed into town to check out the pool hall. Eight people, all playing one hole. Said they play 7 days a week, partners, $20 a man. I think I am gonna like Winchester.

Donald, the best player in Clarksburg is from Winchester,
John Brill. He was curious about who you wre shooting
with. Figured he knew some of them.

Getting the hang of it

I had a breakthrough in one pocket this weekend. I need six and my opponet blew his shot and left the rack wide open with me frozen to the top rail center diamond. I had a ball haning in my pocket. The nine ball player in me wanted to jackup and try to draw back while shooting the hung ball. Eureka! I shot a tough spot shot made the hung ball and left another in it's place. Did that 5 more times and won the game, set and match. To me it was more rewarding than a nine ball out from the same position. Bad, 9 ball player, bad.

One Pocket is a great game that I wish was played more in my area. I'm from Modesto and if we want One Pocket action we have to go to Sacramento or the bay area. There are some very very good players in those areas, Tony Chohan and Billy Palmer to just name a couple. I've had some great experiences playing the game, it is definately more mentally taxing than 9 ball. Once I played a guy some 1 and 2 hundred dollar sets of 9 ball at Bucktooths pool hall in Manteca, Ca...I lost 500! All the sets were close but I just couldn't seem to get it done that day. I thought it had come down to the guy could just shoot a little bit straighter than I, I was winning most of the safety battles. Well I invited the guy back to Modesto the next night to play some One Pocket for 500 a set, race to 4! He showed up the next night, wanting to play for 400, not 500, having a million excuses as to why the change in stakes was necessary. Well...I drilled him so bad the first two games that in the middle of the third he threw a ball against a pinball machine and got kicked out of the place, forfeiting his money of course! The ONLY thing he could do better than I was shoot straight, perfect for 9 ball. I banked, kicked and stategized way better than him and in One Pocket you get rewarded for that. I took a kind of sadistic pleasure in banking balls very near my hole and burying him behind the stack, let's see him get out of that! Too bad nobody really plays it around here, not even our top pro Kim Davenport. Nevertheless I wouldn't try giving him too much weight at the game! See you guys on the table..........Marc
