just curious.........is it possible to enlarge a cue butt where the wrap will be? Im looking to have my cue refinished and a leather tiger wrap installed. My cue is just a hair under 4 inches around where i hold it. I have long skinny fingers and an index finger that wont bend at all due to a childhood injury. I found a house cue the other night that just fit my hand perfectly, measured it and its 4 1/4 (hard to believe a little over a 1/4 inch difference is that noticeable but it is). So could my old wrap be taken off, then the area built up and channeled and the new wrap put on? I realise this would make the cue kind of flare out then taper back down to the butt.......what if the wrap was enlarged so it ran all the way to the bumper, similar to the wrap on the jump/break cue on a sledgehammer or a fury. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this before or had ideas on it?

well i talked to cory about it, in fact he sent me the swatch of materials he posted about, got it the other day. But he says all they do at this time is wrap work, he said i would need a cuemaker to do any refinishing or cutting of channels, so I dont think hes going to know the answer, building up a cue is going to be something a cuemaker will have to tell me about.

The only logical answer I can think of right now is to change the handle then recut it. You will also have the option to make the cue longer at this time if you wish. You can also sleeve over your existing handle but I don't prefer this option.

Are you real attached to your present cue? If not get another one made to your specs so you won't wind up with a cue shaped like a bowling pin.

lol well i love the way this one hits, if there was an easy way to just do this i wish i could. I had thought about having one made but then, what if it doesnt hit like i want? What even makes it hit the way it does? Its an old schon sp46......if i had to guess id say the piloted metal joint and the wood, but i cant swear to it. I kind of feel like ive finally settled on a cue i really like that i play well with, I hate to start searching all over again for the same cue just a 1/4 inch larger around to make it perfect. Is this just too much to ask? If I can find a way to make it work are we talking possibly changing the hit of the cue? I dont know enough about cue building to even know whats involved.....i was thinking that somehow once the wrap was taken off, somehow it could be built up, then wrapped, then maybe use 2 or 3 rings coming down in size to make the cue back even with the buttcap. Maybe i just dont realise what im asking lol.

Your not asking for to much, you may change the hit some but if it has a weight bolt, there can be a compromise, You just need the right person with the time to do it, The older cues had bigger butts and thinner joints, a lot of todays cues had compound tapered butts, so your not out of line with your request. The most important is the right QUALIFIED cuemaker.

well this cue only weighs like 18.6, so im guessing theres no weight bolt but i might be off. I know youre too busy right now to mess with this mike, actually im not in a huge hurry for it, im an accountant and for the next 4 months i will be playing pretty much no pool as i work day and night. Will your work load be easing up between now and then? If not who could you recommend to me to do this kind of thing, if you want to pm me that would be great.

If you give me a month to catch up a little, I'll be happy to help, Please keep this in mind though, once the changes are done, the new butt cap won't say Schon, nor will they work on the cue again seeing it has been altered, I have heard they are funny about this, I just want you to know what your options are, I'll do the work then send it to Tiger to get it wrapped, I do not plan on adding their stack wraps to my inventory.
I hope this helps.

ok mike thank you. I will call you on the phone sometime in the next few weeks and see what we can work up. What i might do is let you strip off the wrap and see what its like underneath, then either go with the enlargement or just cutting a longer channel and the ringwork and refinish and then shipping it to tiger as is, i got some time to think about it.
