I went to the pool hall for the small 8 Ball tournament on Sunday afternoon. I almost didn't as I won the last 4 times I played.

It is a race to 3 double elimination. One of the younger guys I had beat before has lots of potential, He ran one rack after I scratched on break and beat me pretty bad the other 2 games. I gave him a warm hand shake and told him he played very well and to keep it up. I invited him over to play at my house as we will both benefit from the competition.

The other guy has been trying to beat me in a match for about 2 years. He out played me and was so happy he said he was going to put it on Twitter. He cracked me up and I gave him a hug as I was genuinely happy for him.

So loosing when you are an amateur player who plays to have fun does not have to be a negative experience.

I will beat them next time.........Maybe!

Nice post Ak. I play with a group of guys and we're all very competitive. We don't gamble and are very supportive of each other, especially to the lesser skilled folks. We help them get better and enjoy their victories with them.

A lot of people don't get me, or think I'm insincere, when I cheer them up on great (or even just good) shots made. I just really enjoy seeing the game played well!

At first I thought what the hell is the matter with you. But when I think about it,
I guess it depends on the game you're playing. If it is something that is just a
fun thing like a game of cards with my wife and friends it doesn't mater who wins
or loses you are just having a good time. Enjoy it for what it is. If the winner is happy
I'm happy for him or her. If the winner starts bragging and caring on it bothers me
a little, but I just smile and let it go. Now if he keeps it up I get a little p***ed, no
I get really p***ed. I don't need this s*** from this no playing nit. Sc*** him, I'll
turn the GD card table over, leave his house and give him a flat tire, the pri**.
LOOSING NOT A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE. WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER
WITH YOU. WHY ARE KEEPING SCORE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. oh sorry.

Nice post, AK Guy

When playing competitive pool, my main goal is to shoot well, in other words, up to my capabilities. Not to make mental mistakes and miss makeable shots.

I have seriously felt better playing well and losing than I have winning a match but shooting poorly.

+1 . I feel exactly the same way. Always trying to improve, but as long as I play well, at my level I'm happy.

Wait a minute....instead of winning at all costs, you want to see the game played well and have fun, too?

th

Attention: There will be no fun allowed here at the pool hall. This is serious shit, after all. That is all.
