The Cue in the middle is not a Meucci, it is from 1968 , the Cuemaker
is unknown to me.
I play this cue every sunday...

I'm fond of the old originals Meucci's like your David Howard cue. Very nice.
I used to own that same model Meucci and I think the model number was a DH-3 (David Howard). It played very well and I sold it after listening to a lot of people saying that Meucci cues were not good cues and I should get a real custom cue. Meucci cues play well and I always wanted an original David Howard Giant Killer. I've seen a couple for sale on ebay, but it's been a while......

Some History
The first meucci, MS 1 ,was made in the late 80`s.
Second - DH 3 - In the middle 80`s, i am the third owner.
Third Meucci, the MTC 4, is owned by my Girlfriend, she loves
the Black - White -Silver Design.
Centercue is my first Cue, in the nineties i put a JR 7 shaft on it.
The JR 7 was made in 1983, it is mine since 1993 and it comes
with two shafts.One of these shafts go to my first Cue.
Next the HOF 6 i think,the 95 Series.
The last on my pic - 21st Century 3 - is for daily use, I put a
Kamui Black SS Tip on it and now it`s more than ok for me.
I played a lot of good cues in my lifetime - Falcon,Pechauer,Bear
Schön....etc but i love these Meucci, specially the JR 7!!!

What does Meucci have? I played with a friends some. It was ok, but not super. Oh well! Seriously, are they good enough to compete with all the under $1000 customs available? I think their typical inlay patent has always been ugly to me, so that is a bias of mine.
I know how you feel. I sold a DH-3 that I bought cheap from a cue raffle winner at the Akron Open. I still miss that cue.

At Starcher`s? I lived in Akron in the early 70`s and played there a lot. I knew the entire crowd of local players and we played a lot of straight pool and 9 ball. Emil Glocar, Jerry Wolf, Joe Kerr, etc.... A great room.
I remember when Paul Mottey came to a tournament there from Pittsburgh with his first couple of cues for sale. They went quick.

Yes it was Starchers. Dottie and her sons rolled out the red carpet for me because they knew I drove 750 miles to be there. Jerry Wolf's cue was the first Szamboti I ever saw. I bought a couple dozen or so cues from Benny Renzi and "Concrete" John Garvin. Garten Bierbower was one of Mottey's original buyers. Jerry Franklin was alive and well. Troy Frank was just a kid. Young John Archer played his first "Big" tournament there. Joe Kerr was driving a purple Corvette in those days. I recall attending when Sigel won, Varner, Spaeth, Tony Ellin, Steve McAninch. I recall fierce final matches with Mark Jarvis and Jose Parica. I'm sure we choked on some of the same smoke back then.
Those were great days. Sure wish I knew then what I know now. I passed on a $500 Gus cue with 5 shafts, traded Keith McCready's Kersenbrock for a Joss East even up... wow. (I passed on a box cue or two...back then they just looked awkward to me)
If you don't have them Will, I'll send you a few matches from that old tournament. As you will remember, Pat Fleming was a one man company and I bought a few of his original tapes. I've got Gary Spaeth against local player, Dennis Jackson and Mark Maryo vs Nick Varner. Some really cool stuff converted to DVD.
I bought several Meucci cues then. I would sell them in RI for $20-30 profit each and just look forward to the following year. They played great and there was enough variation among them to always have something fresh to show.
