I love the juice!

I can't get enough of juicin' up the cueball to get position. When a shot comes up like that (extreme high/low inside 2 rail position shots or some sort of "juicy" shot) I get all excited about it. Anyways, many a time I miss cue or just plan ole phunk it up. But when I nail it, its great. I know a lot of you are thinking this guy has it all wrong, pool is all about keeping it simple. I know that and I try my best to do so, however sometimes you gotta get "fancy" to get out. So I guess I'm just wondering if there are many of you juice craving players out there as well?

ALSO, the other day I was playing around, conjured up a juicy shot nailed it a couple times, thought I'd try to show off my stroke to some friends. Obviously couldn't do it once I had an audience but none the less they tried it, we talked about it. Then the one fella said that is a really really low percentage shot. And I was just thinking "that's just cause you can't do it". But I have respect for this guys opinion. Alright enough rambling. Here's the shot, how many of you can do this shot/would try it when it mattered.

Yeah yeah, I know this isn't the easiest path, I didn't wanna put a bunch of balls in the way causing this to be the only path. Lets say this is the only path and you have to shoot the eight bottom left.

Also the 6 ball and cue ball aren't in the exact spots. Vary the two but the idea is drawing half the table with inside "juice" to go two rails to the eight. I just don't think it's a "really really low percentage" shot. Ugh, what a long post. Sorry

Could I pull that shot off?...........yes. Consistantly?...........hell no

In that same set up if there were balls blocking the obvious center/high follow shot to get position, I'd do an easier extreme center draw shot that would come off the back rail at a slight angle and then run down to the other end of the table. I like to stay on center ball whenever it's possible, figuring throw on longer distance shots is no cup of tea.

But to the point of your overall question about is it fun to "juice" a shot up once in a while................YOU BET!

I know exactly how you feel. Some of the older guys always yell at me for doing such things. But hey, if I'm confident in loading up the cb and drawing one rail rather than following two...then why not? I like to imagine those shots as being the only route for position. For some reason it calms me down and I shoot it just like any other shot.

Do it in desperation. You are either a hero or goat. But sure does feel nice when you make it.

The bad part is after doing that you miss the next shot that is a duck. I see the pros do the same thing.

We all have to have our "fun shots"! I have one that sounds rediculous, but I play it so often in practice that I sometimes play it in tournaments, too! Of course that isn't a good idea...

Here's mine, put a ball hung in the corner pocket, maybe an inch out of the pocket and on the side close to the short rail of the corner pocket. Place the next ball an inch off of the long rail by the first diamond (about a diamond up from the other ball). Place the cue ball near the spot and play the hung ball high-left (or high-right, which ever one is away from the long rail) with a boat-load of juice. The cue ball will bounce out and the high will work against it to curve it around and stop it on the long rail straight in for the other ball. I love that shot!

Oh, yeah, the old "Hollywood Shot". Heady stuff, almost irresistible, but it tends to keep me out of the finals.;)

Your diagram would be a great shot for Deuel, but with my stroke, I'd probably come up short on the side rail, end up going three rails counter-clockwise, and park myself right on top of the 8. But you're right - they sure are fun when you pull them off.

Yeah, that diagram is something...I'd have to say that I'd take a little more angle to get down to that short rail... It also kind of reminds me of playing a ball in the side with low-inside so that it draws back and goes around the horn...

Fun stuff, anyone else have any fun shots?

One of my faves - and I've actually made it twice in competition - is a long massé. Your opponent has left the OB on the foot rail, and the cue is downtable with another ball preventing a direct hit. You bend the cueball around the interfering ball, it drops onto the rail right next to the OB, and the english spins it into the pocket. Great fun to watch.

If the angle is "on" its certainly an option worth considering. This particular shot would be better with more angle. The trick is to know when they are "on" or not, that and know your capability.

These shots serve a purpose. You will know not to shoot them in game situations if you rarely ever make them in practice or just foolin around. That, and you eventually learn how to hit the outer edge of the c/b without a miscue and be accurate. You do this with controlled power, not a wild stroke hoping you juice it as much as possible.

When your stroke is smooth and accurate these type of shots will be a lot easier, although, like I said you have to know when to shoot them or choose a better option.

To answer your question, yes, I'm not afraid to spin whitey if needed.

To those who like to have fun juicin' the CB, those types of shots are often available in 3 cushion. Although they not usually the correct shot, it sure is fun on new fast cloth.

Here's one, it's not extreme but needs to be very controlled. A guy set this up and asked me if I could play position on the 2 ball. He set it up near perfect, unlike someone setting up an angle that just won't work. I knew what had to be done but I drew the ball a tad to much and ended at point B. A bit close but it's ok, not bad for one try. I'm using the old wei, I'm not familiar with the new one.

I tried as a photo but it did not work. Maybe someone knows how, i'm short on time.

picture of shot in post#11

Here's a crude but viewable rendition of the shot in post #11.
It's in the old format, which I can read on LINUX using
http://rsbtable.leagueoperator.org/ but can't help with the
other one.

Thanks, yeah...that is a fun shot. It took me a minute to figure out the diagram, I was following the wrong line. :p Draw the cue ball just enough to hold it and keep it from touching the long rail and then the right catches on the opposite short rail and spins it around the corner and back up...
