I made a case

Title kind of says it all. I'm not a leatherworker, but I am a sailor. I had some leather left over from building turnbuckle covers. A Stanley knife, some sail maker's needle and thread, and some very rudimentary leather forks, and I have a case. Interior is lined in lamb fleece, one tube from a golf bag to hold a cue butt is finished in polar fleece. I was inspired by a shotgun slip.

I'm a sailor too and always wondered how the lashing/splicing/whipping skills you pick up over the years would translate to leather work.

Thanks! I do all my own running rigging. I find leatherwork to be a friendly mix of that and boat carpentry. Order of operations is the biggest challenge. Saddle stitching is very time consuming.

It is, but I find it almost therapeutic. I dig doing it.

Gun cases and fishing rod cases are part of the history of cue cases.

It's hard to argue with a nice basic envelope style case. No frills, just a case.

They are beautiful in their understated utility.

And when you invest your time and work in making it, it is truly your own. You can't buy that. Every stitch carries the spirit of your own time and effort.

It's hard to argue with a nice basic envelope style case. No frills, just a case.

They are beautiful in their understated utility.

And when you invest your time and work in making it, it is truly your own. You can't buy that. Every stitch carries the spirit of your own time and effort.

This is very true. Though, I also have a Jill Hawk custom case with similar styling that I absolutely love. It'll stay my main case and this new one, I'll use for traveling light.

I just wanted to post a short note about a great experience with Jill and Clyde and Jill Hawk Cases.

I had been using cheap vinyl cases for many years because I couldn't quite find something that fit my eye. A lot of the leather cases have a Harley Davidson/Western vibe that isn't quite to my liking. The Predator-style modern Euro cases are really nice, but a bit modern for my tastes.

I came across their 3 Carats case on this board, and thought, maybe they can help me!

I wasn't looking for a show piece or collectors item, but something functional and understated. Also, a case...
