Due to health reasons I haven't been able to play for well over a year, it really sucks.

I am having my final surgery in about six weeks and then I am on the road to recovery and looking forward to playing again.

Don't take your health for granted, it's a blessing to be healthy, simple things like being able to play pool start to mean a lot when your stuck in a hospital or homebound.

Tell me about it. I played pool since my dad put a table in the basement when I was nine?I'm 67 now. From then I played pool just about every day and a lot of days I played more the 12 hours. I quit school to play it, lost a lot of nice girlfriends over it, lost two jobs over it (one was the best job I ever had), I missed out on the normal things kids do growing up. Hell I even missed the birth of one of my four kids over it. I got the call to come to the hospital while playing 14.1. It was a hundred-twenty five-point game and I had to finish it first. I won a big $20 and missed my daughter's birth.

Before this gets any longer let me just say that I played pool first for the money and second for the rush of the gamble. But I loved playing the game more than anything. Some people love their job or business and can't wait to get up in the morning to work at them. That's how I felt about pool.

After seeing a doctor only a few times in my life up to 62 years old, I started flying apart. At 62 I had a heart attack, 2 strokes, was told I have COPD and only 55% lung capacity.

I tried to play again after a few years of rehab. I was at the poolroom a good six to 12 hours a day. Then one night at the room, after trying for about a year I finally unscrewed in the middle of a game. I was giving a young guy the 7&8 wild in races to 5. I use to have to hold back with him with that spot. Now he was free stroking me. It wasn't the money it was that I saw that I was never going to be above a C player again. I just couldn't handle that. The next day I put all my cues and cases on E Bay. The love affair of over 50 years was over. Yes there were some tears. Johnnyt

Well my story isn't as sad !!!

I haven't picked up a cue in over 6 months myself due primarily to overwhelming cue orders....

But the sad thing is that there are NOT any more local tournaments worth a damn to goto and the action has become scarce... so in all actuality I'm really not missing much in that respect but I do miss the whole ambience and atmosphere of being around players and everything the pool environment entails....

It such a shame this competetive game has been reduced to league mentality outside of the pro tour and the essence of true players is becoming extinct !!!!

Is there any hope left to bring this game back to life ?????

Oh believe me I understand, I'm npw a cripple on morphine, i cant play now, i load up on pills and try but its useless.

Sorry to hear these stories, Im VERY lucky for sure!!

I am very lucky to still be able to play. Had a hip surgery 15 yrs ago. A knee surgery 10 yrs ago, and then another hip surgery 1 1/2 yrs ago.
I am getting back into the swing of things on the 9 footers. I will get there. Have always stayed on the bar boxes through out all the rehab.
My first couple months back I won a regional 9 ball tourney. I was on cloud nine. It was tough, but I did it!!!!! This year at BCA nationals, I played some of the best pool of my life in the team event.
Like I said, I feel very lucky I can still play.
