I'm not sure what you're asking here.
Is your goal to have a 3/8x11 drive pin or are you looking to experience the challenge of making one?
If you just want to HAVE a drive pin, buy a pre-made SW type pin (Atlas, Prather, etc.) and cut-off the 14thd. section. Bingo, you have a drive pin. Same for the Radial pin. In either instance, you're chucking on the alignment barrel and not threads. Save the cut-offs. You can use those for JPs.
If you're looking for the challenge of threading your own, well, good luck with that.

Quick story : About 20 yrs. ago I thought I'd treat myself to the challenge of making my own 14 & 18 thd. shaft inserts. A lot of them came out alright and some of them didn't. It wasn't long before I determined that since I could buy pre-mades for $1 ea. then it wasn't worth my time to chuck-up the bar stock.

All I need is a piece of wood or phenolic that is tapped for the SW-type pin. That way I keep going until it fits,and if it works great,if not I can always buy one. Chances are,unless I lap and buff it,it won't come out as nice as one from Prathers,TNS,etc. Tommy D.
