Hi all,

Can somebody tell me what a fair/reasonable price would be on a used Mottey in say, 90% condition?

Specs: Ivory Joint, 6 points - 3 high amboyna/w black veneer, 3 short ebony. Stitch ringwork throughout. Two shafts ivory ferrule.

Thanks in advance for any help/

Regards,

Doug

depending on what you descibed... 6 points.. ivory joint and ivory stich rings.. do you know what wrap is on it? i would say in the condition you mentioned.. without seeing it myself.. i would say 2500 to 3200..

1200.. is way way tooo low.. try and get a 4 point cue with a steel joint for 1200.. it is going to be real hard...

Thats what i thought, I Don't think you'll see any Mottey go for $1200, but if anyone knows of any please let me know!! :D

Blue Book....

Here is what the Blue Book 3rd Edition says for a similar cue with only 4 points. It has ivory points and Hoppe ring, though, while yours has 6 points, etc.

Level 3
- Ivory joint, ebony forearm, four ivory points with ebony and holly veneers alternating over four ebony points with holly veneers, ebony butt sleeve with a thin ivory ring at bottom.

Grading 100% 95% 70%
MSR $2,400 $2,200-2,500 $2,000 $1,875

Doug,

From your limited description, a fair market price would probably be around $1900-$2000. If the cue has ivory stitching throughout vs. maple...add another $200; leather wrap vs. linen....add $100; and milled points instead of mitered veneers, you may need to add $100 (maybe not though with the plain low points). Ivory ferrules are stand on his cues, so nothing added.

Anything less than $1750 would be a bargain, even in this summer's sluggish cue market.

The cue Doug is talking about has the lizard wrap, ivory joint, the stitches are maple, and the condition is estimated at 95+%. I would have jumped on this one myself if it weren't for the fact that I have one coming in from Paul this January.

You all are tops in my book for taking the time to help me with pricing this cue.

Thanks again.

OK...here's one for you (see attached pic). Newly refinished...the joint is a 5/16x14 flat faced stainless steel. Paul has made very few joints of this type and I think it is a fine hitting combination. There are 2 shafts, one at 12.6mm and one at 12.85mm with 3/4" ivory ferrules. One shaft is original, and the other was made by Paul recently. The cue weighs 19.4oz and 19.8oz depending on the shaft. It has brand new moori medium tips. This is an excellent opportunity to own a great playing Mottey.

FIRST $1,200 TAKES IT!

Thanks,
