I was wondering if you guys could help me out, I have just replaced tips in the past but recently a guy gave me his cue and the ferrule is lose at the bottom, I was wondering how can I get the ferrule off, and do I have to put a new tennon in the end. Also I use Loc-tite super glue gel for tips would this be good to glue the new ferrule back on..........any help would be appreciated.....Thanks Al:)

You can heat it up by spinning it and applying pressure with thick leather piece.
If it's loose, it's probably not threaded.
If it's not, hopefully the tenon is still around 5/16.
Do not use super glue for ferrules. They have no impact resistance.
Use epoxy or Titebond II glue ( overnight )..
If you thread the tenon, get the compression die from UniqueInc.com.
You will need a tenon at .280 or so to thread.
If you pressfit the ferrule, make sure it's snug and leave three glue grooves around the tenon.

If the ferrule is threaded then the threads might be a bit stripped in which case a new tenon would be recommended, otherwise a ferrule could be slipped right on after the old one is removed. Most people I know use a 2part epoxy when doing ferrules and tenons, I think it has a little more give than super glue and is not as brittle. If the ferrule is just lose at the bottom you might be able to wiggle it off by trying to turn it a bitto break the rest of the epoxy inside. You would most likely have to replace the entire ferrule as getting it to be flush again is a royal pain.^listen to joey he has more exp. I think i said preatty much the same thing

thanks

Thanks guys, I actually just cut the old tip off and the ferrule just pooped right off:)

Must be an import. :D

Old McDermotts, house cues and others that used fibre ferrules have that occur. Fibre ferrules absorb moisture badly and when they do they shrink in length and expand in girth until the glue breaks loose and they are free to come off
