I tried a few new treatments on my cue cases.

I take it ...

that you want some opinions since you posted this: lol

This is my opinion ONLY (please do not be offended);

The first one is OKay, but a little too much concentrated gold
in one area. The initials are good, but with the clasp there and
gold, the lightning bolt, etc should be more subtle.

The 2nd one, I like the logo a lot, I do not like the gold at the
top or bottom, it is too much and too busy. It should be a
simplier design and not so much scroll type work.

IMHO, The gold should accent, and not blind ya ... lol

My OPINION is:

If we can IMAGINE it, JimM can do it be it. Be it good, bad, or indifferent. Depending upon how ones taste. :D

i have to agree with the other posters, it just seems like "too much".

that said i really love the look of your cases, the design etc, one of your cases are my next "big" purchase when it comes to pool, and I like how you keep trying new things.

I would expect this guy to walk into the pool hall wearing this and carrying the first cue case;

Sorry, and I don't hope I am laughing at your expense. I have commented on your work before, and gave rave reviews, but this one is just not my style.

I understand your reaction

I understand your reaction but I wasn't putting these up for that reason, which you seem to understand already. I, don't myself, make judgements on what people like. I just do the best job I can do with the idea. There are so many different possibilities for designs and treatments that it is blowing me away. I can probably make these for years and not have to do the same design. From Victorian to Celtic, it is wide open.

Oh yes, does that suit come in my size?

Jim

Jim keep posting you new endeavors, and accomplishments in Case Art. Your work appears to be bound only by your clients imagination. ;)

I think the craftsmanship is very fine and I love the gilding. If I had the cash, I would get one similar to the lightning bolt case. It is my style all the way.

I have a feeling that the guilding looks less bulky or flashy when you see the cases in person. It is just difficult to imagine the scale correctly. I have noticed that I think cue designs are bulky when looking at photos, then when I get the cue in-hand, the design is tight and awesome.

From a practical point of view, assuming the case will be used, I don't think the gold guilding will last very long. It will rub off, in a relatively short span of time. JMHO.

Jim, I am still thrilled with my case :)

If you do that gold, how about a much finer lettering?

Is it harder to do very thin detail than the thick, bold patterns you attempted?

I can imagine the western font of yours with fine, very fine gold detail.

HTH,

Dave

Dave

There isn't too much limit on size except you would want some kind of leather thickness to show. I have already had to make my own tools to make the filligree on the Jackson case. As long as there is a paint brush fine enough, I can do very fine work.

As far as the guilding wearing off. I guess that is possible but I have done the best I can to preserve it. There are a few coats of clear spirit based finish and the guilding isn't in areas that will be bothered very much. But, at the end of the day, it can always be touched up or removed completely.

Thanks,
jim

I would be curious to know the cost of creating a Multi Colored Nine Ball Logo & Three Initial in the Top Part of one of the Base Model Vintage Cue Case.

Nice looking cases there Jim, but I LOVE the old Palmer that you play with! I saw it from across the room and knew right away it was a Palmer. Wish my pop left me something that nice! Cheers Jim!

9 ball logo

The multi colored nine ball set up with three initials would probably cost about $125 more than the basic case that you would want.

Ricky,
Come over and say hello sometime.

Thanks,
Jim

Nice cases. I am thinking about may be getting one but I have a few questions.
I am just curious, what happens if the zippers are broken? Do you offer a lifetime warranty on the zippers?
What about the clip which opens and closes the case? I had one clip like that on one of my old briefcase and it broke very shorty. After that, my briefcase was basically useless. Does it come with a key? If I lock the case and loose my key, is there anything you can help me with, such as a spare key?
If my shaft (with joint protector) is accidentally stuck in the tube, is there an easy way to take it out? I remember I could just take all the tubes out with my Swifts, Instroke, or Justis and then replace them fairly easily.
Can you replace the felt? How long will that take?
Thank you so much.

The handle on the side of Jim's case works wonderfully as a towel holder. It does just fine for me. His case has more extras than I could have asked for. Excellent job Jim... Still loving my case!

Joe

I'll try to answer your questions.

I am just curious, what happens if the zippers are broken? This would be one of the tougher problems. They would be hard to change. One thing though, I have been using these zippers in my training equipment for 14 years and I don't remember any of them breaking. Do you offer a lifetime warranty on the zippers? No, but I'll do my best to fix it.

It is a lock and it is easy to fix or change. Does it come with a key? Yes. If I lock the case and loose my key, is there anything you can help me with, such as a spare key? Yes, they are available.

Can you replace the felt? How long will that take? I use Cordura nylon to line the tubes. It will last longer than the case.Thank you so much.

After using my case for the past several months on a daily basis, I have the utmost faith and absolutely no concerns regarding any of the above.
