I tripped carrying slate today

Today I tripped carrying slate. I was going backwards carrying a 8-foot, 1" thick piece of slate from a 3 pc slate table. It happened so fast I'm not sure if I didn't see the step or stepped up and didn't get enough of the step, anyways I fell on my ass and the slate came down on my legs bangind my left knee into the tile. I some how managed to keep the slate from hitting the floor. I got pretty luck with only a bruised tail bone, butt cheek and knee. I was able to finish the job but my knee pretty stiff. This has been the only time tripped while carrying slate.

Holy buckets Donny! I fell for the first time ever last Thursday on a job. The slate was in the guys garage and there was a 2" lip from the main parking area to the raised storage area. I stepped off the lip with my right foot and it rolled off and snapped as I was going down. I thought I broke my ankle but gave it a few minutes and thought it was best to keep moving and finish the job. Good thing I did because it swelled up bigtime that night once I got off of it!

I always send a note of thanks to my customers and this was the email reply I received back on this one:

(Same here, hope your ankle is ok. We played last night, and all seems to be perfect. I told my wife you sacrificed your body to save that slate.....she was so glad you did not get hurt. I am looking forward to many a gathering at this table, and now it has a "history" to share....yes, right down to moving that first piece of slate. As long as you did not get hurt, it makes for a nice talking point......sorry :-) I do hope that our little holiday bonus will bring a little additional Christmas cheer to you after helping to bring so much cheer to us. Our heirloom table has returned to service, indeed better than ever. I feel like a real "Table Pro" was here in my home, literally! I only wish we needed your services regularly, as it was a pleasure having you in our home. We may have to change felts each year, just to enjoy more of your company. :-) Thank you again Robin. Happy Holidays to you and yours. You are a true gentleman, and I consider myself lucky for knowing you. Please stay in touch, as I will.)

So.....who's next? They say bad luck comes in threes right?!?!?!?

Robin

So, don't anyone go running out there, trying to be the next victim. Number 3 has already happened!

I hope you are doing well. The tale bone injury is a painful one. I do enjoy your posts so take a day or two off and heal.
