Not sure what you're referring to...i haven't competed with anyone here, and I've been using the site for a long time, and actively thru the changeover.
The old software was outdated. They needed to change. This software is used by many other forums, including one that I've been frequenting for years now.

Compete was probably the wrong term. "keep score" would be better. Before you could see who had been here, how long and how many posts they had. It seems like another level to me. As you say, it is the way other forums do this. I guess that is why I do not belong to any other forums. No problem it must be me.

Remember the old rep game and rep wars? I think the different look is the biggest thing throwing you. I didn't like the skin until I changed to shades of grey then I was pretty happy. I was using the older skin on the old software too, disliked the newer default skin. Had I changed over I would have gotten used to it I'm sure.
I am enjoying the positives like only having stickies on the first page. I like the division between stickies and standard messages too. Seems like we have multiple gains with the new software for every loss.

I'm old and getting older by the minute too... you can see the info that you're missing by clicking on the posters name. It pops up a window with much of what you were missing, join date, number of posts, etc...
