The IBSF World Snooker Championships have started in Wels, Austria and continue through October 8th. There are Men's, Women's and Masters' divisions. See http://www.ibsf.info/ for details.

I can't say that any names ring a bell, except for Stevens of course. But in looking at past champions, names like Fu, Doherty, Maguire, Ebdon, and Jimmy White come up, along with others. O'Sullivan won the under 21 division.

Couldn't find any Americans whatsoever. At this point I'm wondering how good the US Snooker champion is, if there is such a thing. Hell, maybe a decent player, with a year or two of good practice, could take home the title of US Snooker Champion!!!!

.......not that anyone would know what in the hell that meant.

I'm not sure of all the methods of making it to the main tour, however you can also make it the main tour through the Pontins events by being in the top 8 of the tour.

I think there may be other methods as well though.

Hi there!

Well there is of course a United States National Snooker Championship, and you can read all about this year's event on the SnookerUSA.com website.

The United States entered two players, Ajeya Prabhakar and Jeff Szafransky, in the Men's Event in the recent IBSF World Snooker Championships in Austria. Jeff did pretty good in finishing 5th in his Group, just missing out on qualification for the knockout phase, but Ajeya had a tough time as the airline he traveled to Austria on misplaced his cue - so he had to borrow a cue for each match he played.

The 2009 United States National Snooker Championship will be held at the end of May, either in California or New York, which we will finalize at the end of next month.

Best wishes.

Alan.
