Idea for a competition format

Ok, seeing as the 9 and 10 ball championships have become breaking contests anyway, how about having an actual breaking contest?

Have every pro break 20 times. Racks are different each time. Referee racks. Points are given for balls down, Being able to pocket the lowest ball etc...

Then the pros could have a crack at playing some "trouble racks". First shot ball in hand or a fairly easy set up position, then try to run. Racks are the same for everybody. Lets say 10 racks. Again points are scored.

I suppose there could be some kind of kicking contest too.

As boring and lame as this may be, it is actually a better yardstick of pro skills than the WPC, and it's fair as well. Let the hatred flow through you, lol.

Oh, and btw, I'm not seriously proposing that this be implemented, only toying with the idea of a "fair" 10ball/9ball skill format.

Ring Game Rules

I think the ought to go to Ring Game rules that way you have to make something happen.

This is why after playing pool on and off for years, now at age 63 I've discovered......snooker. The game itself is so much better honestly. A completely better test of skill. I don't see how anybody can seriously dispute this. I'm pretty sure that most of the best European pool players just couldn't cut it at the top levels of snooker. Now let's really hear the hatred...lol

No hatred from me. I love snooker, and straight pool too. And no, pool players can't jump directly into snooker. That doesn't mean they are less talented overall, but it requires a different skill set. You might not be able to compete in snooker unless you've played it since childhood.

I don't think there are any bad Pool games if someone wants to play it.., but there is nothing wrong with 9 Ball or 10 Ball as they are played right now.

As far as the break goes, the breaker only wins 55-65% of the time in either game, not to bad and if you have a weak break its one of those things that should be worked on or you could just elevate the rest of your game to such a level that the break isn't a big loss.

The real problem with Pool 9Ball/10Ball is that there aren't enough tournament and the tournaments don't pay enough. Add a tournament every month, have be a $100,000.00 added and watch the level of play go up.

That's not a lot of Money over 12months , its less than the pay in 1 weekend for golf, but its a lot to us Pool players because it aint there.

I actually gambled somewhat this way. We had 3rd person putting balls with magic rack 8-ball and we did 7 breaks. only legal breaks gave points. scratch or cueball out of table is no points.

after 7 racks we compared first how many times we made ball from break. After that how many total ball we made from break. If all were even we break sudden death mode. It was exiting for sure to play that for 100€ per set.

I never even thought about that kinda gamble before but guy was claiming he is better breaker and I said nope :P
