Ideas for a pool-based TV program

Growing up in the UK, I remember a TV program in the 80s called 'Big Break', which was (in a fashion) centred around snooker.

I was just thinking how plausible it might be to come up with some sort of format for a show which involved pool in some way.

Who should host it? What players would be good to have as guests?

What other non-pool based elements should be included?

You know, it might be a way to raise the profile of the game and make some good TV at the same time.

It seems that this forum is generally a fantastic bubbling cauldron of ideas, so before throwing my own suggestions in the rink I thought I'd take a back seat and see what everyone else thinks.

Don't be afraid to say if you think it's simply a stupid idea from the outset, but of course I hope there will also be at least a few positive suggestions/ideas.

Go! :)

The Ultimate Hustler!!!

It would involve Pool, Poker, Golf, Backgammon & Chess!!!

The idea behind the concept is to Crown someone the Ultimate Hustler!!!

You have a certain amount to money to begin with and have to match up with the other competitors till one person has all the money. You may not get the game you want in Pool and pick poker or golf!!!! But, you must play all games at least once. A cross between a game show and a real sport!!!

It would be awesome!!! schmidt vs dippy dave or Corn flakes or Efren playing Chess! the concept would be that "its all about the match up" or "He who does his homework is King"

Every week you tune in and wonder what they play today and how they MATCHED UP!!! The viewers can either split the difference between the two offers or pick one offer and best 2 out of 3 in the 3 out of the 5 events but once off the chart that round then next round they must play the other 2!

Sounds a bit hard. :sorry:

...I mean why not throw karate, knife-throwing, and brain surgery in there while you're at it? :)

I tried to think of all the games people Gamble at, you can pick any 3 as long as pool and poker are there!!! Many gamble golf also and that would be my other choice and kill the other 2!!!

But, you get my idea and concept. you have to negotiate your matches and that whole part of gambling gets missed in tournament Television matches. Plus, it forces much more interaction and trash talking!!! Also, you can fluctuate the bet and bet on certain shots!!! A true no holds barred gambling experience.

I fail to see how trash talking and gambling on a TV show raise the level of pool awareness in a positive light.

No, I thinik a TV show focused on the lives of people who play pool that culminates in an excellent pool match for the last portion of the show would work better.

They did this type of show already. Cant find a link and forgot the name of it but they would go heads up in 8 ball (terrible btw) then blackjack and then something else. It was really bad :boring2:
