Ideas for stickies and FAQs

Anyone that has been on this forum for a year or more will know that the same threads resurface every week.

What's the best cue for me?
What's the best tip?
Will a soft/hard tip something, something, or whatever?
Blah, blah deflection/swerve?

I was thinking maybe there could be an FAQ sticky with links to threads with previously discussed (to death) topics. The sticky could be called "don't ask any questions before looking at this sticky". Obviously some things are worth discussing a couple of times, but 9000 times? Maybe not. At least have a science faq on deflection, spin etc. I realize that this suggestion might come off as negative and as being a forum "nazi", but it is not intended that way. Of course you are allowed to ask previously asked questions, but it would be good if you read the old threads first, maybe? And please, we all know that the search funcion on the forum is not working optimally for the common topics, so it would be nice if you don't just point to the search function. I myself have asked questions that have been asked before, inadvertently, because I couldn't find the threads with the search functions.

I am also aware that previous threads of this nature exist (which is an ironic twist all to itself) but I feel that this is a topic that can be repeated a couple of times, you are free to disagree.

I understand that some topics get re-hashed too much. However, when a topic is posted anew, you get different people answering and/or different perspectives. There needs to be a balance that avoids boring but encourages continuing participation.

Stickies collecting prime threads on particular topics is a good idea so long as they are put somewhere other than at the top of the main forum (too many there already). Perhaps in a separate forum named "oldies but goodies" or "somewhat useful collections of old threads."

There is a problem with too many stickies in the main forum, as well as too many repeat threads. I think it would be smart if there were a maximum of 8 stickies. One obviously would have to be along the line of "rules and regulations" with links or several messages in one post. One could be "forum technical FAQs". Another could be "pool science FAQs (which could also be a part of the discussed to death topics)", still another could be "Announcements from the mods/Gods". And another category could be "discussed to death topics". That way the forum would not be drowned in stickies. As it is there are several stickies titled "rules" and two on "membership". One rule sticky and one membership sticky should be enough. The memorial sticky and the challenge sticky are probably also a good idea to keep. But the forum style/panjo/sponsorship etc could probably be combined into news/announcements stickies

I agree that some topics could use a second look, but if the same exact question is asked the same exact way, the answer will likely be quite similar. If the person read the previous thread the question could be rephrased and original content created, because it would then be a question asked from a point of at least some knowledge.

another idea for a sticky... the Panjo Dilemma

not sure what Panjo is as I have never heard of it

as a newbie I attempted to access the for sale section by accidently clicking on “Classifieds” and got “Panjoed”

http://forums.azbilliards.com/classifieds.php

clicking on “classifieds” takes you to the “Panjo Marketplace”

Appears to be paid advertising for venders,

I was looking for the section in the forum where members buy and sell their used pool related items

I found it here…….. eventually

what is the “Panjo Marketplace”

Appears to be paid advertising for venders, It seems most private seller/members use the “For Sale” area in the main forums found here
