I believe it did. The font matches what I have seen on factory engraved cues from when I worked at a McDermott dealer from 88' to '96. During this time frame McDermott also did several limited production series of cues for their larger dealers. This is likely one of these cues.

C-14 forearm, C-11 joint rings, the boxes in the bottom were a design that didn't make it into the standard line at the time, and the rings in the bottom were cut out of the veneer colors of the points, orange and red.

If this cues wasnt made for a particular distributor, it was probably made for a customer who picked out the combinations at the factory, or it may have been a mish mash of left over cue parts that the guys at McD put together.

They do hundreds of prototype designs and the ones that dont make it into the standard line are offered for sale both at the factory and sometimes when they travel to various events around the country.

Guy the engraving certainly looks like others I have seen that were done by McDermott during that time frame. But the cue, appears in my opinion to be a Prototype design, the cues Butt is similar to the D-10 and the points look like a C Model. It is certainly an interesting cue, I have seen a few others from the same time frame that were also prototypes, but they are not common. First Jim McDermott did not allow the company to use parts from discontinued designs, much less combine different designs from existing models.

After Jim sold the company that is when they started combining all the old parts that had been stored or rebuilding cues from old stock. Now I do not think this is the case with this cue, I believe the cue is most likely from 1987 and that a customer order it is engraved as we see it. Like I said above the engraving is exactly like McDermott was doing during that time frame.

Just for your info Manwon, Jim would build or have built just about anything a customer requested. Many times a customer would take scissors to the old brochures, pick their rings, forearm, wrap, and butt plate, and send it to McD for a quote. Of course the price was much higher than the standard cues. I myself have done this....a copy and paste kind of thing.....and usually within 30 days a cue was delivered.

I have seen hundreds of the prototypes if not thousands, and most often they were always for sale.

I stand corrected and thanks for your information.

Have a great day

i bought the same cue from Miller Time in Moline IL. in '87 or '88. i was told by them that if a dealer bought 12 cues at once, the lucky 13 was included in the order. they made it different than other cues in that year's line to keep it special. that's what Miller Time told me anyway. i asked McD a few years ago for information, like how many were made that year etc., but i got no info. anyone else out there have one? ps. my wrap is different, white with red dot linen

Thanks for jogging my memory...stillrolling...I had forgot all about that promotion. While I usually took advantage of their sales like this, I think I had a pretty good pile of cues at the time and did not pull the trigger.
